British Rocket – Captured ME-163 - MENG 1/32
Martinnfb replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Absolutely sure, the engine was removed for variety of reasons. The very same protocol was followed by Russians and American research teams. -
Did I mention the hailstorm that struck Calgary while I was in Phoenix. Approximately 15 grand damage.

Peter it should work, even if you just drag the picture from your desktop into the window. This platform makes everything so easy and fun.

British Rocket – Captured ME-163 - MENG 1/32

There are also lengthy debates about the colour applied on the bottom of this aeroplane, yellow, sky? That is something I am not sure about, maybe some RAF experts can pitch in with documentation clarifying this mystery . Don't hate me too much LOL Cheers M. -

Here you can clearly see the demarcation lines of the colours on the top wing with walkway stencil by the root of the wing. The "repair" colour on the tail is most likely of British origin. Cheers Martin -

Brown's comet did not have the engine, it was pulled behind Spitfire mk.9 mostly at the Wisley airfield, also Wittering and Farnborough . There was some overpainting on the tail, and wing root, otherwise the top camouflage was standard. Stencils were translated and added creating interesting mixture with German ones placed on light blue-grey base. -
Thank You Padre, thank You Ernie. Yes, during the development of the Mig-9 become apparent that the regular steel sheeting behind the engines will not provide sufficient protection from the heat generated by the jet flow. Therefore designers brought a new solution, where two layers of steel plating were sandwiched together with a small gap in between. Into this gap was air driven through the set of Ram air intakes located on the sides of the fuselage under the trailing edge of the wing. The cold air was directed into the lover tail section and released via a set of exhaust vents similar to the Bf-109G+ cowling vents. here you can see the small gap, also the presence of the exit vents is partially visible .....partially. I will address this detail later

Thank You Guys, here is little progress from few days back. Slowly shaping resin epoxy in the transition point, not as easy as I expected.

Lovely work Jeoren. Wimpy has a place in my hearth . As a kid I use to read stories of Czechoslovak airmen from 311 squadron, that flew them over the darkness of the enemy territories . Scary to think what those guys had to go thru . Once again mighty fine work, I had a chance to spare a word or two with the Eduard team in Phoenix and I have to admit, what a bunch of nice and creative folks. ,,,if I may suggest something to consider, please check out this video, and the colouring/wear difference present on the bombs, as the casted body was attached to the stabilizing part.- 301 replies

Thank You, it has been fun so far, fun with a sadomasochistic undertone I hear you John, BC is in flames as we speak and Calgary is covered in cloud of smoke, I was talking to William today and he's ok , but flames are everywhere, huge fires are raging across British Columbia. Here is some aftermarket to get some extra blink .

Lower wing needs also some TLC, but the basic pattern is on. Just so you guys understand , this was done in July, today I am playing with the tail transitions . Edit: the cutouts for the gear channels didn't match and were altered with the help of Tamiya resin

I will send Airfixer (Eric) on you, in order to improve your attitude and encourage your moral with fresh dose of positive reinforcement of putty and superglued fingertips .
-
right top side, there is some adjustment work going on in the wing tip area, otherwise I am moving on.
-
lerx ? finished. You can see tons of imperfections, I am truly hoping that a righteous amount of putty and sanding and re-scribing will make me feel better.
-
Right back at you Brother, just wait once you open your F-5 (evil laugh) floppy foot steps wings basic rivet pattern done
-
Thank You Peter, as I said the basic assembly went super fast due the very nature of the super glue and 5 minutes epoxy drying time. The time consuming part is the riveting, I am bleeding patience on air bubbles like a mad man. The real challenge will be detailing of the cockpit and gear bays , relatively visible bits that have to be scratch build. Some riveting pics . The only part left is the top tail section of the fuselage, then lots of repairs . here is the banana tail here a weak spot, the shape and scribing of this top cover drives me nuts, I might fill it and describe it, not just yet... this is going to be very cool, you can see the difference between the new circular rivets and the old , semi-filled squarish ones
