Well that Mystery Ship is still in limbo as I procrastinate on how to modify some of the 3D-CAD work, with my existing software, or a new one I need to choose and learn ... Typical of my current mood Hubert

Not very Ernieesque ... but it is starting to look like a modeller's bench (Says the man who cannot pretend to be a modeller, given its output) Hubert

Floyd Werner releasing 10 Red V-14 racer kits
HubertB replied to Clunkmeister's topic in Modelling Discussion
No arguing with that, Martinn. But, in my personal standards, there won't ever be an aircraft with Nazi swastikas in my home. Full stop. Each to his own. Hubert -
Floyd Werner releasing 10 Red V-14 racer kits
HubertB replied to Clunkmeister's topic in Modelling Discussion
A racer aircraft .... über cool .... one with a nazi swastika ... not so cool And a (personal) reason to pass, just as I resold my He-100 kit, which I intended to convert to Dieterle’s V-8 ... Hubert -
Yeah, Russian aircrafts seem to suffer a lot from defective parts, especially in the electronics area. Notably with their IFF transponders. In the last month alone, Western jets in the Baltics, including LW and RAF Typhoons, and Polish F-16s, had to scramble a few times to guide back to Russian airspace (the Kaliningrad enclave) some Russian aircrafts that got lost with no transponder. This included an An-76, a Su-30, a Su-24, etc... So the problem seems fairly widespread Hubert

Renault Char B1 - French heavy Hitter
HubertB replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Well my French is perfectly OK. Don’t understand what your problem is, guys Hubert PS : très beau char d’assaut, btw, Rob -
The new WB appears to be a one-man operation, or a family one. Whatever, they are a real pleasure to deal with, and react promptly to demands. Lastly, their new decals service is invaluable for people like me who have an old stash of old WB kits. ... And, btw, they have the 1/32 Wasp engine available for USD 5.95. Its not the double Wasp, but still a good and relatively cheap source of engine, even if you take two to make a Double-Wasp. FWIW, the P&W cylinders were almost all the same in dimensions, or the difference is negligible in 1/32 (like 0.5 mm in diameter of the cylinder alone). Of course, the cylinders got more and more fins as they evolved, but we cannot reproduce that many fins in this scale anyway. All of this to say that the big diameter difference between the different P&W radials is located in the area of the crankcase, and that is easy to scratchbuild. Hubert

Very very very nice build ... which reminds me I have to get the flotplane version one day ... Excellent work ! Hubert -
How to make a 1/32 B-25b from B-25j???
HubertB replied to CrankyCrafstman's topic in Modelling Discussion
In short, doable, but not without some significant hacking and cutting ... The linked LSP thread made me disciver that the early versions had a less-deep fuselage than the late ones. And one foot in this scale is not insignificant ... Hubert -
I need to do a proper count, but I would think that probably 50% of my 1/32 stash is made of floatplanes or flying boats ... So it’s more than a keen interest. Maybe it’s my way of merging my interest in ship models and my interest in aircrafts ... If I can contribute a SIG thread, I’m game for it ... Hubert

Pretty , isn’t it ? Hubert

1500 Kms from home right now ... But, in case you did not know it had been released, my wife told me I just received the Roden Cessna L-19 with floats . And there are some cool civilian versions fo this one (not in the box, but that's what a Silhouette is for )... I love civvies and floatplanes / flying boats, in case you did not know yet ... And a pic ... I’ll try to find the time for a review. A (small) disapointment is that the floats (apparently base on an EDO model) are for an amphibious version, with the landing gear displayed. The LG hole will need to be filled for a pure floats version. Plus some Albion Alloys tubes, square and round, and their « Connecto » system. I hope I read their code system right, and the connectors will fit the tubes. Hubert

Kitty Hawk F-5F done.
HubertB replied to Clunkmeister's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Damn you Martin, now I have to find this one (the Merc I mean). I had this type of idea for NMF F-105 D at Bitburg. Greater « cool » factor than the same at Phalsbourg with a 4CV ... (or you can also imagine an EE Lightning with an Airfix E-type or MG ) Hubert -
Ernie has a point here . And in some places, snow is not white at all ... http://siberiantimes.com/other/others/news/eerie-black-snow-falls-over-siberian-region-triggering-acute-pollution-concerns-from-locals/ Hubert

Kitty Hawk F-5F done.
HubertB replied to Clunkmeister's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
You’d then need to paint it green and yellow, and it would not be OOB. As for the pilots, I’m not sure they’d be too excited to take the commands of an engine obviuously made for plowing the fields ... Hubert -

Nice one, Ernie (but these stencils and walkways on the wings look agricultural on this arframe ) Hubert -

What can I say ... besides that I had to look twice at your pics to make sure I was looking at a kit Hubert -
What is on your bench right now ? Share a picture :)

I had the same kind of worried surprise the first time I opened the oil filling cap of my Porsche (3.6 l flat 6). It was full of what literally looked like mayonnaise . I called the guy who was maintaining it immediately. Perfectly normal. The water from ingested air in the combustion process mixes with hot oil fumes in the pistons (there are always some traces of them). It then condenses in the highest point of the oil circuit when the engine cools down, the filling pipe in the case of the flat 6. Beside, he told me he had never seen these engines have cam-head seal problem ... You generally don’t see it in other engines because this will dribble down in the crankcase, to be evaporated at the next engine run. Hubert

Looking forward to see you perform one two of your magical tricks on building these kits This seat is already amazing. Just one comment : even though I am sure they are not that visible IRL, these molding seam lines on the frames would worry me , but then it’s just me ... and maybe that is one (of many) reasons why my kit output is so abysmally low ... Hubert

The only thing that "works" well on ice is skates, or spiked tires. No ABS can save you under these circumstances. Hubert.
