Another jewel ! -
Your top 10 most beautiful American aircraft.
Old Dog replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
Tough choice but my top pick would probably be the Lockheed Constellation, a couple that never were built in numbers are the Republic XR-12 Rainbow and the Hughes XF-15. Yeah, I know that's not 10, I'll need more coffee for that. -
Masochistic build, the 1/48 Fonderie Miniatures Halifax III

The lower lounge looks quite comfy, just the place for some tea and crumpets ! Seriously, some really nice work there ! -
I think it's a conspiracy, they must be in league with the after market folks !

I guess it depends on what you are doing, I bought the Etch Mate 3C years ago but never had much luck with it but I seldom do any PE work larger than cockpit size stuff and I find I have better luck nailing bend points using single edge razor blades and chisel tip X-acto blades. For airframe parts like flaps or large pieces used on armor a bending tool is probably the best way to go.

What’s on your 2020 modelling shopping list ?
Old Dog replied to HubertB's topic in General Discussion
Only ones in 1/32 would be the IM Helldiver and the Bf 108. There are a couple in 1/48 and 1/72 as I model in all scales, as I age I have been scaling back my urge to just jump on any new release however tempting it may be as I have about a 100 kits I'd like to dispose of now. -
Share how COVID-19 Quarantine has affected you.

I consider myself lucky, I pretty much live the life of a hermit anyway so the stay at home order isn't that much of a bother. I can still go the usual places, grocery, pharmacy, to the park for a walk, etc. I'm retired so as long as the government doesn't run out of money I'll still have income. I live in a rural area so contact with others is minimal. My big concern is more along the lines of security. The longer this lasts the more desperate some will become and I'm afraid more civil disobedience will occur, it has prompted me to get out firearms that haven't seen the light of day for years and get them cleaned and checked out. Living in an rural area means response time can be longer and with fewer witnesses one can become a tempting target. I hope it doesn't come to that but the whole situation is unsettling none the less ! -
I think I'd give a left nut for one of those milling machines, I'll have to say that's the cleanest machine shop I have ever seen, not a chip anywhere, maybe it's a museum ?

There is a whole series of making electromagnet powered engines on the tube, everything from single cylinder to radials, all fascinating to me

Let's agree. Modelling is great!
Old Dog replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
Just three, lucky you ! I have about eight currently in progress although progress may not be the best term as some of them have been in that state now for several years, I like to have several on the go so I can jump from one to another while paint or glue is drying or if I temporarily lose interest one and yes it sometimes is a challenge to keep track of parts. -

Well, I guess if I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't be doing it. I do model aircraft and model trains as well and enjoy both a lot ! -
Sweet, I need to get one of these, I fired one up on numerous occasions even though technically I wasn't trained on it. When you worked the graveyard shift you did what you needed to do to get things done

I only have one Iwata and have never used windex in it, that said I do use it to clean my Badgers whenever I use acrylics (mostly clear coats) but I always flush with lacquer thinner after the windex and have not had any issues.

Tamiya F4U-1 Birdcage redux

Do you use an off the shelf color for the salmon or is it a custom mix ? -
I like jets but mostly the ones from the 50s through Vietnam. Later models all seem to be trying to prove the theory that with enough power you can even make a brick fly. That said almost all the jet kits in my stash are 1/48, I only have one 1/32 jet and I want to sell it. There are so many WWII aircraft that I want to build that I don't get the urge to build a jet very often. As for posting build logs, I did a few at various sites when I first got back into the hobby after a long hiatus but over time I found that build logs were the kiss of death for me. Seemed like most of them ended up as fails. Stopping and taking photos as I went just burned me out I think.

ANOTHER PHANTOM
Old Dog replied to k5ikl's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Very nice ! If all the markings are decals that must have been a challenge (I hate decals and decals hate me) If you kept all 19 you must have a large hanger to store them all ! -
DeHaviland aircraft you'd like in large scale?
Old Dog replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in Modelling Discussion
I wanted an early (WWII version) of the Meteor, I bought the later variant from HKM and was hoping Fisher would do a back date set but alas the fire put Fisher out of business and HKM never released and early variant. And yes a Vampire would be an excellent choice ! -
