1:32nd scale Fokker D.II
BlrwestSiR replied to sandbagger's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Mike, that pilot figure looks fantastic. He really does make you realize how small those planes were. Carl -
It looks like Aerocraft has solved another of the issues with the Tamiya 1/32 Phantoms with a new canopy set. https://aerocraftmodels.bigcartel.com/product/mcdonnell-douglas-phantom-replacement-canopy-set-for-tamiya-kits It eliminates the two piece canopy and frame for the opening sections which should be a big improvement.

Wow Rob, that is a tiny kit. Id be afraid of sneezing and having it disappear into the carpet monster. Great work on something so tiny. Carl -

Bent wing bird- Tamiya F4U-1A
BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks Frank and Bill! The Tamiya Corsair is a great kit. This is my third one so far. Have a few more in the stash so definitely not the last one for me. -
Yup, same here in Toronto. Not as bad a hike. $1.14/litre to fill up yesterday. It was closer to a loonie a couple weeks ago.

Bent wing bird- Tamiya F4U-1A
BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Next up, I started drilling the holes for the ignition wires. I don't know how you guys drill such tiny holes perfectly centred on your engines. Mine are anything but centred. Well, maybe a couple are. Same goes for the cylinder banks. I've painted the cylinder banks in Extreme Metal Aluminum. Should be durable enough.- 67 replies

Bent wing bird- Tamiya F4U-1A
BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Man, this plane has been kicking my butt. I think I finally got a handle on it and made some progress. I got the black sections of the cockpit painted. Then I started doing the little detail painting and this is where I got stymied. I kept getting paint where I didn't want it. Finally I gave up and tried some finer brushes I keep forgetting I have. Problem mostly solved, I kept going and then started the stencils. I'm using some from HGW. They're nice and thin and fairly tough. But the fold over on themselves if you look at them funny. Using Tamiya Mark Fit Strong decal solvent got them to go over those buttons I previously messed up. Using a Prismacolor pencil, I added some scratches to the pedal troughs, pedals and around the cockpit.- 67 replies

Fw190A-8 3/JG1 crash Vreeland
BlrwestSiR replied to JeroenPeters's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
That PE work is so neat and tidy. I usually have CA everywhere but where I need it. -
Fantastic work Frank. Thanks for the step by step description on how you remove the thinner resin parts. Where did you get the razor saw you used? Carl
-
I forgot you had the Horton.

Nice to see you back @Artful69. I think it's been more of a ton of stuff coming down the pipeline. The GWH P-40 is an early one so very different than the Hasegawa kits. Hopefully It's good enough to put the Trumpeter one out to pasture. I'm waiting on the Whirlwind too. Hope it's as good as the recent Special Hobby kits have been. The Takom Blitz kits seem to go together nicely. I've built the Jagdtiger and didn't have any problems. I've got the Panzer III and StuG kits in the stash. The StuG has an issue with the commander's hatch in that one of the periscopes are in the wrong spot. Doesn't seem a hard fix. Carl

That's ZM's approach to their kits. Very different from most everyone else and pretty cool for it.

More Viggen news. DN Models is going to release a set of masks for the Fields and Meadows camo scheme. https://dnmodels.com/product/saab-37-viggen-splinter-camo-paint-mask-set-1-32/ They got some input from Jetmads on making it fit their kit. If you haven't used them before, DN makes some very nice mask sets including some custom ones they did for me. Carl

What is on your bench right now ? Share a picture :)

I could almost see this with the US re-arming Japan for self defence postwar could have easily given the JSDAF surplus Corsairs. -

Nice progress there Ernie. Just make sure you don't glue the inner spar of the outer wings to the wing halves. Lots of folks miss that and it screws up the fit. Tamiya kits are definitely a low stress build. As far as your subjects go, I think we're in alignment there. I've done the VMF-213 bird like yours and I did the spliced RNZAF Corsair. What I have planned to do are an FAA one- KD115, then another in the temperate scheme, a night fighter Birdcage like Harv's and a tri-(or is it quad?) colour 1A. Carl -
Nice subject there Tony. There's not a lot of Spitfires with nose art so it's always great to see one. The Exito placement sheet looks really good too. Like you said it's unfortunate it got a bit damaged or it would be great to display with the build. Carl

That should our motto! Carl

Tim, that's some lovely work there. I always admire folks who can make their wiring look so neat and tidy. Carl

Thanks @Peterpools! I think your brother has built a few MFH kits? This is my first and I've got three more in the pile to get to.

Looks great Ernie. Especially for a hotel build. That's no worse than what I have in mind for my Revell Corsair : -
Bent wing bird- Tamiya F4U-1A
BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Ok, so I got started by prepping some parts for a coat of interior green. I used AK Real Color's interior green. I then added a drop of black and did some post shading. Now to start masking and doing the detail painting. -

Someone's happy! Been too long I guess since I did a plane. Thanks Kai! This will be Corsair #3 for me. It should have been a -1D so I'd have the trifecta of Tamiya's kits but the D will have to wait a bit longer. When I get to the -1D, it'll be an easy choice- Robert Hampton Gray's Corsair.
