RFM Sherman Firefly
BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
I added a couple decals for the Governor's General Horse's Guard. There's supposed to be a name but the location was covered by the spare tracks so there was no point. In any case, I accidentally threw it out before I could dip it in water and apply it so probably a good thing. I added the stowage, gave the tank a light overspray of flat earth for a slightly dusty look and she's done. One day I'll get the courage to do some figures and add crews to my tank kits. Otherwise, time to call this one done. Carl -

I got the muzzle assembled and attached to the gun barrel. There was a small seam line so that needed filling. I then worked on a bit of stowage. I had some resin bits left from a Legend set so I used those with some PE belts from Eduard. I also did a bit of a wash on the hull. Not sure if it shows up in the pics or not. -

Thanks Peter and Jeff! Not a machine, just got too much time on my hands at the moment. -
Fantastic start on a very complex model.

So a 1/35 sub is kosher? Might have to take the Type XXIII out then. -
The Tamiya ones are really nice and even though they're over 30 years old, still have some great detail to them. Scale Motorsports has announced the price for their detail set will be $850 US. That's a hard pass from me on it. Unless I happen to win the lottery.

Never noticed that before. Thanks for pointing it out Hubert.

I ordered a model from a hobby shop maybe 60km from me. So 35 miles or so. Canada Post sent it to their distribution centre in St John's, Nova Scotia which is about 3,000 kms east from my house before they delivered it. The next package from the same LHS went 120km the other way but at least it stayed in the province.

Not FedEx but Canada Post has had lots of issues getting packages out. It didn't help that one of their largest facilities for receiving overseas packages had an entire shift quarantined due to a bad Covid outbreak. As for Asia, it seems that a lot of websites only have FedEx or some other sort of priority service as their only shipping option. The annoying part is having paid extra for supposedly "express" delivery and it taking longer than regular delivery. I've got some stuff in HLJ's private warehouse and I'm hoping to wait it out until there are cheaper shipping options. Carl

That's a good question Phil. I know they got heavy enough that it was frowned upon in some units as they were concerned about the increased strain on the drivetrain as well as the increased ground pressure (hence the duckbills). -
Actually, the Hs129 was bought and paid for back in Oct of 2019. It just took a while for Lucky Model to get it in and then for it to cross the Pacific via boat(I used their $4 surface shipping promo). I wasn't in a rush and the price was too good to pass up. Plus there weren't any local ZM dealers. My LHS now carries them so it's easier to get their kits and I get to support a local business.

Hubert, thanks for sharing the results. Knowing the difficulties folks have had with casting clear resin this may be a good alternative. Now off to look at a 3D printer and everything that entails.... Carl -

Thanks Gaz! Actually the purple wire was all I had in the right diameter for the handle. -

Thanks Gaz! I spent the evening working on the turret. I lost one of the handles for the commander's hatch so made one from wire. I used the purple to add some bling to the tank. From there, I added the rest of the turret details. One oddity is that RFM give you enough periscope guards on the PE fret but only 4 plastic ones which is 1 short. So I ended up using a mix of the two. I then added the gun barrel and mantlet. Finally the spare track armour. Here's how things look at the moment. So into the home stretch. -

Ernie, when I did Reluctant Dragon, I used the Monokio decals for the markings. They included a pic of the plane but the angle doesn't show the quarter windows. I left them clear on mine. -

I still remember seeing the Nitto kits at a local comic book shop. The second floor was full of sci-fi models and they had a whole section of just MaK kits.

HK Models 1/32 Lancaster Hints, Tweaks and Tips,
BlrwestSiR replied to NigelR32's topic in Modelling Discussion
They look to be 3D printed. I'll be curious to see if the production ones are the same or if they're cast. -
I posted this in the Lancaster tips and tweaks section but just in case I thought I'd post it here. Resin2Detail has just released a pair of pilot's seats for the Lancaster. https://www.resin2detail.com/product-page/1-32-avro-lancaster-seat-upgrade-for-hk-kit-no-belts

Nice Universal Carrier. I have a Tamiya one in the stash and am trying to figure out if you can fit the Riich running gear to it. Carl
