I've been thinking it's time I built a plane again. I was going to do the Tempest but have wanted to build my favourite prop plane and Ernie's hotel build sort of tipped the balance that way. Anyways, I dug through the stash and pulled out the most disheveled kit of the three. It disheveled as I had dumped a bunch of the leftover kit and AM buys from my other two Corsairs into the box. There's several sets of paint masks, some incomplete, leftover parts, Aires bits for a Trumpeter Corsair, rubber tires. One critical bit, the main spar is assembled in the folded position. As the plane I'm planning to do was built without a folding wing I had to swap that out along with the requisite sprue for an unfolded one. Here's the plane I'm planning to do: The weather beaten and touched up paint job has a certain appeal to me and will fit in nicely with my two other Corsairs.

Nice progress Phil. They definitely need a bit of forethought at times. I was able to get the cowlings on my Skyraider to be removable after completion and if I ever get back to the He219, I think that'll be the case there as well. Still, not always the easiest of builds. Carl -
Like Harv said, thanks for sharing your pics. The build looks really good. Carl

I used them on my Lil' Miss Mischief and didn't have any issues. But they were considerably smaller. I suspect the Microsol may have been too hot and caused the reaction. I've had similar things happen when using Solvaset.

Peter, great to see you back at the bench. I'm glad to hear that the build isn't just giving you some enjoyment but also some therapy for your hands. Hope those improvements continue for you. I built the AFV release of the kit years ago so I can relate to some of the challenges you're facing with regards to the fit. That being said, I may get another as it's the only 2 seater option around. Carl

Absolutely stunning Rob. A great template for when I get around to mine. Carl -
Me too. Lots of options in the box.

Looks great Tom. I'm curious about the fuselage seams. Is the plane primed already and that's where you've sanded it back or is it the opposite? Carl- 29 replies

Thanks everyone! It was a fun build. Onto something with wings now me thinks. -
Ernie would at the front of the line no doubt about that.

I'm looking forward to the Viggen. Just hope we can convince them to do a Clunk. That would be a must have if they do. I know what you mean about the X-3 Hubert. The performance couldn't match its looks. Still looks pretty awesome though.

I thought there was an announcement on here about the 1/48 Lanc? The price is great for it considering how much the Tamiya one goes for.

I didn't end up starting the sub. Instead I've decided on something more complex involving my LSM Christmas raffle prizes from the last two years. The year before I got a Special Hobby Tempest from Harv. It came with a resin engine but I picked up the Barracuda nose for it. Then last year I got the PCM kit from Krow so I thought I might as well put that engine to use. Should be interesting. -

I added a couple decals for the Governor's General Horse's Guard. There's supposed to be a name but the location was covered by the spare tracks so there was no point. In any case, I accidentally threw it out before I could dip it in water and apply it so probably a good thing. I added the stowage, gave the tank a light overspray of flat earth for a slightly dusty look and she's done. One day I'll get the courage to do some figures and add crews to my tank kits. Otherwise, time to call this one done. Carl -

I got the muzzle assembled and attached to the gun barrel. There was a small seam line so that needed filling. I then worked on a bit of stowage. I had some resin bits left from a Legend set so I used those with some PE belts from Eduard. I also did a bit of a wash on the hull. Not sure if it shows up in the pics or not. -

Thanks Peter and Jeff! Not a machine, just got too much time on my hands at the moment. -
Fantastic start on a very complex model.

So a 1/35 sub is kosher? Might have to take the Type XXIII out then. -
The Tamiya ones are really nice and even though they're over 30 years old, still have some great detail to them. Scale Motorsports has announced the price for their detail set will be $850 US. That's a hard pass from me on it. Unless I happen to win the lottery.

Never noticed that before. Thanks for pointing it out Hubert.

I ordered a model from a hobby shop maybe 60km from me. So 35 miles or so. Canada Post sent it to their distribution centre in St John's, Nova Scotia which is about 3,000 kms east from my house before they delivered it. The next package from the same LHS went 120km the other way but at least it stayed in the province.

Not FedEx but Canada Post has had lots of issues getting packages out. It didn't help that one of their largest facilities for receiving overseas packages had an entire shift quarantined due to a bad Covid outbreak. As for Asia, it seems that a lot of websites only have FedEx or some other sort of priority service as their only shipping option. The annoying part is having paid extra for supposedly "express" delivery and it taking longer than regular delivery. I've got some stuff in HLJ's private warehouse and I'm hoping to wait it out until there are cheaper shipping options. Carl

That's a good question Phil. I know they got heavy enough that it was frowned upon in some units as they were concerned about the increased strain on the drivetrain as well as the increased ground pressure (hence the duckbills).
