Well, it is a bit cold here being winter and all

I glued the cabin doors on the closed position. The fit wasn't bad as a lot of times these bits are meant to fit only in the open position. Then time for a bit of paint. That's as far as I got last night. I'm hoping to get the cockpit started later today.

Next up was the exhausts and MLG legs. Because I'm so good at building in order. With a coat of paint on. At this point, what I thought what was a mould seam is actually a crack in the fuselage. It's bent in quite a bit as well. I'm hoping that once the interior and gear bays are installed, it'll straighten out.

So, onto construction! I started with the engines. I'm only building what's needed to support the intakes and exhausts and prevent a see through effect. Then I assembled the cabin.

I think I did a little while ago. I've got the Kingfisher in a tub at the moment. It looks like an order of fries from McDonald's with the wings and fuselage sticking out.

As we're into the first weekend of March Break here in Canada, I've got a bit of time on my hands. So rather than do the logical thing and work on something already on my bench, I started something new. I've been in correspondence with Mitko from DN Models about some custom masks for another project so that sort of planted the idea for this build. I decided to do the kit pretty much OOB and closed up. I won't try to fix the twist that the engine box has in real life. It'll be more about the tiger stripes. One thing that stalled this hitting the bench was the ResKit rocket pods I ordered. They're really nicely done but due to their lacquer of protection in the package came with many of the tubes broken. So I'm going to skip them and the Part PE set and just use the wheels and Master gun barrel.

Revell fw 190 A8/R11 to "R2 Sturmbocke"
BlrwestSiR replied to coolboxx's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Fantastic build and paint job. I'm just catching up with it now. Paint masks really are the way to go in this scale. They can take a bit more prep sometimes but I feel it's usually worth it. Carl- 62 replies

HO 229 Mysytery Ship build
BlrwestSiR replied to harv's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
I'm surprised I don't have cat fur in mine since our cat has taken to sitting in my lap these days when I'm at the bench. Harv, I think that wind storm has arrived here. Our trees are blowing all over the place. -
Tamiya P-51D on the bench
BlrwestSiR replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Can't wait to see you start on this one. Carl -
Okay, I finished drilling all the needed holes and added the PE bits to the ribs. Complete PITA as you have to thread the blast tubes through them as well. But it's done and they do make a difference in the appearance.

Thankfully my bench wasn't that bad. It seems I left it in the open B-25 box next to my bench. So I found it after looking in there. It's a single action brush so I'm hoping it'll work nicely for doing tight squiggles. The compact size should help too. Carl

One more for now. The PE set includes some bits to add detail to the ribs in the gun bay. But you have to drill out the lightening holes. So that's next.

Thanks Martin! I'm hoping that I can make it removable after completion. One other thing replacing the tubes does is it lets you clean up the mould seams as they're a bit heavy and were somewhat inaccessible.

So first step is to cut out the existing tubes. Then you have to drill through the bulkheads. I started with a 1mm drill bit and moved up to progressively larger bits until I reached the correct diameter. I did a quick test fit. You can see the difference in length on the centre tube.

The plastic ones aren't bad but there's a cutout near the tip so they're not completely circular. The inner ones also don't extend all the way back to the gun bodies themselves so that's the other issue. They stop halfway.

Okay, got a bit more done. I installed the gear bays bits I previously painted and started on the nacelle halves. From there, I started on the belly pack for the guns. I have the brass barrel upgrade set from ZM but it's a bit of a challenge to fit. This is the stock kit part. Here are the replacement blast tubes for the belly pack as well as the wing guns.

Well, I got a new airbrush. Only thing is I can't find where I put it after taking it out of the box. My bench can't be that badly cluttered.... Carl

Thanks Bill! This is my second ZM kit to make it to the bench. The first was their A-1H and I enjoyed building it. I did leave out a bit of the interior details that would never be seen. Thanks! I've only managed to finish one so far this year. But it's the third one I've started.
