Stop the press!! New Wingnut Wings Lancaster on the way!
BlrwestSiR replied to Clunkmeister's topic in Modelling Discussion
Just got a newsletter from WNW that there will be test shots of the Lancaster at Telford. They also say they're hoping that price wise it cones in slightly higher than the Felixstowe/Brandenburg Duellist kit so $400 ish? Which means I might be able to pull off getting one of these to go with the HK one. Carl -

BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
With our Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday I had time today to get some work done on the Tiger. It was mostly getting small bits on. I started with the spare tracks and the various cables. The ones for the turret were particularly fiddly as they didn't have any specific location points provided. All that's left now are the OVM tools and the turret markings. Carl- 27 replies

Great review James and thanks from me as well for doing it. Carl -
Very clean and sharp. I use masks all the time for markings but haven't tried them for camo yet. Carl

see why we call it Beautiful British Columbia?

Great photos Jeff! I've only been to Vancouver so haven't seen anything really of BC. Still trying to make my way through Ontario where I live. Martin, I hear there's more fluffy white stuff headed your way. I think you need one of those Russian tanks with the jet engines mounted on them for snow removal. Then you get to combine all your hobbies in one shot Carl -
OK, I need an optivisor for my optivisor.
BlrwestSiR replied to Clunkmeister's topic in General Discussion
That's what happened to me. I started wearing glasses when I was 3 1/2. I was fine at the work bench and for reading but then had my eye surgery and suddenly needed reading glasses. The rest of the time I've got 20/20 vision so it's a fair tradeoff in my eyes. The good thing is so far both my boys have great vision (thanks to the wife's genes) so hopefully they'll be able to keep it for a while. Carl -

The family dinner went really well. The turkey was nicely done as was all the side dishes my wife made. Everyone had a good time. I managed to get to the bench after everyone left so finished up the turret. I've thrown the tracks on as well to see how they look. Almost time to start working on the smaller bits now. Maybe a magnifying lamp would help? I still haven't tried an optivisor myself. Last year I had ICL surgery and went from -11.5 to near 20/20. What a revelation that was. Then I found out I needed reading glasses because my car sighted vision was finally normal. Carl -

Thanks Peter! For the cowls, I usually have them in place but still removable. I've managed to get them to stay in place for the most part. When I'm gluing the cowls in place, I build the minimum amount of the engine needed like this one: -
That would be a neat one to model. Carl

After getting the bright idea to check through a couple other Dragon Tiger kits in the stash I was able to find suitable replacements for most of the missing bits. There's a couple really small ones I can live with not being there. She won't be a contest winner but she will be done and off the SoD so I'd call that a win. Looking a couple of photos I found as well as some AM decal instructions, I started to heavily chip the Zimmerit. Then I started a very random camo paint job. I also painted in the areas where the Zimmerit had chipped away in Panzer grey. It's Canadian Thanksgiving and we've got family over today for turkey so I doubt I'll be at the bench. Hopefully I'll be able to get some more done tomorrow or Monday. Carl- 27 replies

Thanks! There's a bit of detail missing from the arm but for me, it's worlds better than not having anything there.- 27 replies

A bit more progress on the Tiger. I got the zimmerit applied to the other side and the rear hull. Them while working on the turret, I noticed a couple missing bits. Then a few more showed up as MIA. Searching online, I found I could get the sprues but they were going to cost me $30 each. Which was half the price of the kit. That's probably why I stopped working on it. I nearly did again but decided to try scratch building the bits. Here's the first I made. It's the spring and arm for the commander's hatch.- 27 replies

A quick one for today. Made my first attempt at zimmerit that wasn't AM. I used a Tamiya trowel set and Vallejo putty. It seemed to work out well.- 27 replies

There's so much room on your workbench. I didn't have anywhere that kind of space working on mine. Can't believe how big the P-47 is in the background. Carl

Stop the press!! New Wingnut Wings Lancaster on the way!
BlrwestSiR replied to Clunkmeister's topic in Modelling Discussion
I pre-ordered the HK Lancaster from Kitlinx. They had the best price I could find and more importantly, a reasonable shipping charge to Canada for what I anticipate to be a fairly large box. But absolutely the most important criteria was I had the funds at the time. For the WNW ones, it'll have to depend on the price and if I have the funds available at that time. Carl
