  1. Peter, I had assembled and painted the wings for another Tomcat when I realized I had painted them with the control surfaces white and I needed them to be Light Gull Grey. Rather than strip them I just grabbed a second pair and threw the incorrect ones in the box for the subsequent build.
  2. Markings time. I used masks for the main markings as I get along better with those than decals. The other side. Then I did the wings. The right upper wing is slightly back from the left so I'll need to re-do it once things are dry. Oh and the landing gear legs are on.
  3. Maybe try a 2 part epoxy putty for filling the gap. Mix some up, fill the gaps and then do the basic shaping with wet tools before it sets. This could cut down on how much sanding you need to do after. It's what I've done to make the new nacelles on my F-15 Kai.
  4. Recasting a kit that complex wouldn't be that easy. There's enough 3D printed parts in the model that it make replicating them a bit more challenging than the usual. Of course, being a recast, they're probably not that concerned with quality.
  5. I did a quick test fit of the tailplanes. One thing I noticed looking at pics is that the tailplanes tend to be pointing up rather than down. I've given them a bit of this to add some visual interest.
  6. Whatever is giving me the motivation to keep plugging away at the model is still going so I'm making some great progress. I started cleaning up the brass gear legs. They're by Aerocraft. There was some flash so I had to use a Dremel to grind it off. They were then primed and painted. Oleos still need to be done. Then I painted the remaining control surfaces. I'll probably wait until the gear is on before adding these. Next up, I touched up around the cockpit opening. I attached the rudder and painted that along with the nose which is temporarily stuck in place.
  7. Peter, it's the old Tamiya 1/32 kit. Oddly enough the wings are done which is what made me start the kit originally.
  8. I just got an email from BNA and they're now carrying JetMads. They have the AJ37 Viggen in stock. https://www.bnamodelworld.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=160587 This is certainly a change from the direct sales approach JetMads has done. Not to mention the one and done production runs.
  9. It would have been easier if I had remembered it wasn't on yet. Same goes with the rudder. It'll be easy enough to paint them to match.
  10. I saw the drivers stations and radios. A bit pricey for the driver's seat but they definitely add a lot to the model.
  11. Thanks @DocRoband @Peterpools! I'm happy with the mottle and the black undersides. I have done a bit of post shading on the underside though to hopefully bring some more contrast to it.
  12. Wow, nowhere in the ballpark with the nose art. At least the spelling was correct.
  13. There are masks available for the stripes. https://www.culttvmanshop.com/Razor-Crest-paint-masks-172-scale-from-Aztek-Dummy-_p_7307.html They're for the AMT version but you could probably make them work on your kit.
  14. My replacement accessories set for my 1/16 Achilles arrived today. It was sent directly from SOL to me and they even included a small bonus pack marked as a gift. I appreciate that along with their effort in correcting the error. I also received the LEDs for the Cylon Raider. Time to try my hand at a custom lighting setup.
  15. I've received kits shipped from Asia wrapped in bubble wrap and nothing else. Guess folks are trying to save on shipping costs.
  16. Time for more paint. This time I masked the upper sides off and sprayed the black lower sides. I used NATO black to help give it a weathered look.
  17. Thanks Peter. My first real try at mottle camo.
  18. Awesome progress there Peter. Things look to be going smoothly. Thanks for the heads-up on the intakes. I have a couple of these to build so that's good to know. There's a Tamiya Tomcat next to my bench but of a different vintage and quality I need to get back to at some point.
  19. Looks great. Nice upgrade with the turret barrels.
  20. Time for an update on the 262. I went back and forth on getting new masks for the canopy when I decided to just do it the old fashioned way and cut my own. Hopefully they work okay. I then sprayed the touch-ups and the right side of the fuselage in RLM76. I then started on the mottle camo. With the wings unmasked. Next up will be the undersides and engine nacelles.
  21. I read the book after seeing the film but both were fun and enjoyable.
  22. Using heavily thinned gloss black, I sprayed some coats onto the fuselage. Now to let it dry for a bit and then continue.
  23. Got the paint on the bottom done. This took about half a bottle of Tamiya XF-19. The finish is extremely flat so I may give it a semi-gloss or satin clear when I'm done.
  24. Great looking Corsair John. Nice to see an FAA one. They do stand out a bit from the typical USN ones.
