  1. So my house move is a little more advanced, finally got time to set up my workspace properly ...well version 1 for sure. As ever it will develop . Six foot bench, an extra set of drawers over the previous house and great natural light from all four directions which should make photography easier. So thought I'd have a test run with some random model . I'm not a fan of Airfix....or 1/72 ....or Jurassic Plastic .....or even P-38s . But bought this last week ???? It's a first run from 1972 . A little warpage, and both booms and top wing were broken in antiquity , but no flash and the fit is similar to 2022 Airfix ....kinda OK ish . Repaired the booms , banged it together , even included Chuck the pilot ( another thing I don't do ..include pilots) It would have been quite advanced for it's day some neat ideas , position lights ( did them with Microclear instead of old sytrene) one piece wheel bays / cover doors - a nice idea at this scale saves mucking around ot get the alignment. Shows its age with the amount of filler ..old school fit...and huge 2" rivets So in one bit, primed , blasted with Tamiya AS16 as a chipping undercoat. Colours next ..and some plan for the 40 year old decals. Plenty of space for weight ... More filling needed ....... And this is after I rubbed the rivets down ....
  2. Saw this ....cheapo on the Bay ....and bought it . It's mahooosive ....much bigger than the 1/144 one I did last year ....and yes I knew it would be twice the size .....🙃 Got some plans for it later on . Also you can admire my restoration of a 60 year old family table .....wood working , painting, & elechickening being my life these past 3 months....there is light at the end of the tunnel ...we should be done mostly by September...maybe . Might call it the 'Uge-Boot.....& No flipping railings to annoy me . No Scribing needed here OberBootsmann...some drilling though Here is "Baby Boot" from last year. .. Laterz ..PW
  3. The delightful eccentricity of Sofilein
  4. I've seen a BUFF at Duxford , but never one in the air. This one was at RIAT.
  5. Huh ! Well thats a result, but I feel somewhat undeserved compared to the other ships which I thought were far beyond the little destroyer. Still , thank you neighbourhood kids for the vote. My LSP skills are way too poor for the Val, and I'm fond of the old Devastator , however if GusMac has a burning desire for one or the other I'm easy 😄 as it will be end of summer before I get back to the bench .
  6. Feck , thats 120% great !!!! You totally nailed all that decaling , looks painted on . Weathering is bang on too . Congrats that's a cracking build .
  7. Airbus A400M Atlas ....usual Eurobodge consortium effort ....designed by Committee .....late....over weight ....over budget .....Wiki gives you a lot of the tale . UK airframes were at least 25 years old , & yes you can make anything run forever if you want to throw money at it but it becomes a loosing game if the capabilities date as well as the maintenance costs soar. Upside - Carries more for further than C130 , should be cheaper to run as you need less aircraft for same capability....but no where near as agile for rough surface landings. Given UK defence cuts I wonder how longer before the RAF can airlift the whole of the Army in one lift .
  8. The last flight of the RAF's C130s takes place today , with a tour of the country by three final aircraft , ending a 56 year use of the type by the UK . Most have now gone to Marshalls in Cambridge, where no doubt they will be spruced up and sold on . Living near Brize Norton , I wandered down to the end of the runway to take some pics . I think that the last of my "childhood aircraft" from the 1970's now retired barring Puma . We are now using Airbus Atlas JCS (job creation scheme) , with money that was to buy the final 8 aircraft now going to fix the issues with the 22 the RAF already owns ....go figure ...oh and "them" reckon it's hopeless for their needs too.
  9. "Boxheads don't surf Captain....." Quote from Saving Private Ryan possibly
  10. Cheers peeps . It sailed across the ocean and now lives in Yakima Washington with it's new happy owner.
  11. OUTSTANDING ! Shots against the sky are the killer ones for me . 24/25/26 is "straight out of a movie" shots. Can you still lift it ?
  12. Calm down fellas , that was a comment on the ease of assembly of their models , rarely need to file to fit or use filler , no endless fiddly PE etc , not some disparaging of your work .
  13. Don't you have to remove 50% of the paint though ? The pictures of them always look sand blasted .🤣
  14. Every time I use green florist's wire, or sheet copper... or wet on wet washes with Leather Brown ...or ..or ..or ...I have to recognise I've learnt so much from that fella.
  15. Ah the Israeli answer to De Gaulle's stupidty...... Make it better than Dassault ...and home grown ...with some help from GE . Great rendering , the 'stance' is spot on for my money . 👍 Any more pix perhaps ?
  16. That was my observation too . Doesn't detract from a very nice 109 though.
  17. Can I ask what do you do with them all John , is there a fleet of Corsairs in the house or do you sell them /gift them ?
  18. It's won a lot of plaudits I believe , been tempted myself as I've never done a "wrong" Lightning *😁 Gabelschwanz-Teufel !! Pit looks great , I'm guessing this will be RFI very quickly !! I know what you mean about doing a well engineered Tamiya kit as a counterpoint to wrestling with something more complexing . The newer ones almost self assemble . * not an English electric one
  19. Ah so a lot more current than I first thought. TBH gifting old stuff is fine in my book as long as it doesn't have to match up to much newer opponent ...ask any Russian in a T62 how thats working out for them when the Javelins start flying ..🤣
  20. It's Laser Creation World . I love his work and have watched Thomas for years. He got very zombie oriented a while ago, love his techniques more than his subjects sometimes . He is a very clever man and great story teller with his work . The flying Citroen was a hoot . Link
