SOD Trumpter P-47 "Sigma Nu Girl"-Finished
PanzerWomble replied to KevinM's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Sorry totally my bad, what you call "masks" correctly .....I think of as a "stencil" . Whereas in our hobby context "stencils" means instructions painted on an aircraft ....probably through the use of masks IRL LOL . Have a think about using some artists oil paints for weathering maybe ? If you like don't like the effect a q tip in white spirit will take it all off . Lets you play around nearly infinatley with oil spills , fuel drips even paint fading . Or pastel chalks are popular for fading as well . Either way that T/bird is mighty fine . -
Is that Ernie who keeps calling "to speak to the house owner" then ? He sounds a bit Nigerian for Texas I thought.

Lovely paint modulation, looks bang on scale , weathering is very authentic as well . Werner's stance is great his leather pops and the lighting is great . Thats a cracking build and pix Gary 👍 -

All good , those stencils turned out well . Shes' a cute girl . Few thoughts if you reckon on stencilling more ....numbers 1 2 3 are easier to stencil than 8, 9 or 0 if you get the choice of serials 😀 One of the joys is that you can sand/scratch through stencils !! Can be hard to line up when you get started ...I use thin masking tape (5mm) to edge the bottom and one of the sides , means you can line it all up with the masking tape and.........then just plonk the stencil in place when its all peachy straight I learnt in 1:1 painting that getting the tape off quickly helped with less ridging or paint tearing , I do the same with Masks, once its dry I take em off. Not sure if that helps with residue transfer or not , but not an issue i've had using Oramask 810 I took the plunge bought a Silhouette ...$200 ....never looked back . Dead decals , don't fancy the box option , CBA with silvering or decal soft ...20 mins on the cutter and off you go . -
Kitty Hawk 1/35 SH-60B Seahawk
PanzerWomble replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Something deeply satisfying about saying enough is enough and just binning some manufactures shoddy work . Airfix 1/48 sea harrier … binned….ICM Hs126hit ……binned. What’s worse is they already have taken your cash , but you don’t have to waste anything more on junk models . I was really tempted by the KH jaguar as it’s the only new deal for that aircraft in 1/48 ( I’ve done the Airfix that’s as awful as the harrier) but reviews all said the fit was dire on that one as well and with them trading for daft money will have to wait until a new mould appears . Have a beer Pete, watch a favourite movie and treat yourself to a nice model 😄 -
Kamikaze mission ? er what silvering ?…

Ah i see it now , they spelt sushi rolls incorrectly, damn those IJN aircrew menus I’m guessing its upside down but I doubt any non Japanese reader would notice

It's armour not aircraft but the skills and drills are the same for oil dot weathering. Say hello to Evan , he's a great guy and was very young when he started knocking these out . Still knocking around youtube Nice work Nick . -
As so finished this off...... ..and reminds me why 1/72 isn't for me ...and also filling gaps in old kits etc ain't no fun . My 12 year old self would have been proud of this effort , to me today it's pretty "MEH.." Plain Olive Drab makes for a boring subject. I more fancy doing Tamiyas 1/48 version but in NMF to add some colour. Silhouette cut some masks rather than muck around with the ancient decals. 14th FG in Algeria Nov 1942 ish . They had a high attrition rate mainly due to the desert conditions and were withdrawn in early 43 . So its done, won't get shelf space for any length of time , but was a quick way of doing my first "new house build ". Also a quick check on the lighting for photography - that'll need playing around with too . Laterz PW

I live near Brize Norton ..these things fly over head all the time -
So my house move is a little more advanced, finally got time to set up my workspace properly ...well version 1 for sure. As ever it will develop . Six foot bench, an extra set of drawers over the previous house and great natural light from all four directions which should make photography easier. So thought I'd have a test run with some random model . I'm not a fan of Airfix....or 1/72 ....or Jurassic Plastic .....or even P-38s . But bought this last week ???? It's a first run from 1972 . A little warpage, and both booms and top wing were broken in antiquity , but no flash and the fit is similar to 2022 Airfix ....kinda OK ish . Repaired the booms , banged it together , even included Chuck the pilot ( another thing I don't do ..include pilots) It would have been quite advanced for it's day some neat ideas , position lights ( did them with Microclear instead of old sytrene) one piece wheel bays / cover doors - a nice idea at this scale saves mucking around ot get the alignment. Shows its age with the amount of filler ..old school fit...and huge 2" rivets So in one bit, primed , blasted with Tamiya AS16 as a chipping undercoat. Colours next ..and some plan for the 40 year old decals. Plenty of space for weight ... More filling needed ....... And this is after I rubbed the rivets down ....

Saw this ....cheapo on the Bay ....and bought it . It's mahooosive ....much bigger than the 1/144 one I did last year ....and yes I knew it would be twice the size .....🙃 Got some plans for it later on . Also you can admire my restoration of a 60 year old family table .....wood working , painting, & elechickening being my life these past 3 months....there is light at the end of the tunnel ...we should be done mostly by September...maybe . Might call it the 'Uge-Boot.....& No flipping railings to annoy me . No Scribing needed here OberBootsmann...some drilling though Here is "Baby Boot" from last year. .. Laterz ..PW

Huh ! Well thats a result, but I feel somewhat undeserved compared to the other ships which I thought were far beyond the little destroyer. Still , thank you neighbourhood kids for the vote. My LSP skills are way too poor for the Val, and I'm fond of the old Devastator , however if GusMac has a burning desire for one or the other I'm easy 😄 as it will be end of summer before I get back to the bench .
