Kaireckstadt
Thank you all for your feedback and sorry for the late reply. I’ve been at the 41st celebration of my Highschool exam (41st because of the Covid-restrictions last year) in my hometown in northern Germany. I will continue with the build next week. 1

Kaireckstadt
Today I managed to paint and assemble the engines. Only painting of the compressor wheel and inner parts of the turbines necessary. I used AK Extreme Metal, Alclad II and Tamiya Weatherine Sets to achieve the results. This is how the original looks like: And my interpretation: Exhaust tubes: Impossible to remove these ejector-pinmarks. Luckily not visible when assembled. Afterburner-rings: Exhaust-nozzles from the inside: Turbine-wheel and afterburner-ring assembled: Compressor wheel assembled: Exhaust tube assembled: Next step now will be the assembly of the fuselage mid-section. 5

Kaireckstadt
Thank you all for your nice feedback. I investigated a little bit regarding the landing- and taxi-lights, Mark. They can be switched on separately by the crew. It depends on the rules of the wing where the aircraft is operated (at least valid for the Tornados of GAF Wings). In some wings the procedure is given to light both when taxiying to the runway (e.g. when it’s dark outside). Others have different procedures for ground operation. When in flight you are right: only landing-lights used. 1

Peterpools
Kai Right with Mark .. always nice to learn more of procedures and ops, as it ads so much to the build.

Kaireckstadt
IMG_9079.MOV IMG_9079.MOV IMG_9079.MOV IMG_9079.MOV Thank you Kevin! After a small pause I was able to continue with the build. Made greater progress with closing the fuselage rear, gluing the fuselage front to the rear, assembling the intakes and the preparing the thrust-reverser flaps. Gluing the fuselage front to the rear was a little more demanding since I had to integrate the platine with all plugs attached. I was very happy that the test of the electronics after the assembly was successful. Maintenance board my Interpretation Sensor on top of the fin (scratched because I lost mine during assembly) marriage of upper and lower part fit of fuselage front and rear not too bad The „cable salad“ in the fuselage intakes assembled. Tailerons not glued. Starts looking like a Tornado… intake from the inside IMG_9079.MOV Video of working lights assembled thrust-reverser flaps. Guiding sheets not glued because they are invisible after assembly in closed position. pencil marking on the lower parts for the painting process where heat-markings of the guiding sheets of the inside are visible thrust-reverser mechanism prepainted flaps with AK extreme metal steel Still some rework to be done on the underside… test fitting of the thrust-reverser-flaps ok rework of the panel behind the cockpit. Gap was too big. Now I can go on with the rework of the model: filling, sanding and rescribing. Not one of my favorite tasks…😉 4
Peterpools
Kai Amazing progress - just so many individual details and parts you had to orchestrate and come together. Amazing work. And now add in again all the electronics ... a boat load of work successfully accomplished. 1

Kaireckstadt
Thank you Carl. Interesting that your brother in law worked on Tornados. Curious to hear about his feedback!
Kaireckstadt
The Tornado is in the rework station at the moment. That’s why I didn’t post an update here for a longer time. Also a bigger problem occurred when the LED in the left wingtip didn’t work anymore. Luckily I had 2 spares left over from the set which I didn’t use. I had to make a cutout on top of the wing as far as possible along panellines and remove the LED and solder the replacement one to the cables. I’m happy that the surgery worked and that the problem appeared already in this stage of the build. Now I have a another section with a bigger rework necessary. This is how it looks like: LED changed and cutout refitted cutout sanded and rescribing still to be done light working again. Will look more red in the end when the glass is also painted red. The underside of the wing. Position lights colored and glass added. HUD-light toned down with translucent green Thats it for today. Will post an update when all rework on the complete model is done.
Peterpools
Kia Outstanding work and a modeler after my own heart - backtracking and re-doing what needs to be done. The replacement of the two in-op LEDS looks perfect and when you finish up with the re-scribe; perfect! Always seems to be something that might need a rework and sometimes it seems never ending. I try to pick a point of it's good and blends in well the build and call it a day. Looking so good .
Kaireckstadt
Thank you Peter. I hope the Tonka won’t be a never ending story! 😉 So here is a small update: The rescribing process is ongoing and I’ve assembled the in-flight-refueling boom and 2 sensors at the front of the model: Today I will go on with the painting of the zones on top and bottom of the wing where the wing moves: This is necessary before gluing the housings at the wingroot.
