Administrators Clunkmeister Posted September 14, 2022 Administrators Posted September 14, 2022 Apparently the rumor mill is churning out reports of the development of a new tool 1/48 Canadair Ct-114 Tutor. I have mixed feelings on this, as it’s a small airframe and is the perfect size for 1/32, being that the real jet was designed around closely matching the size and performance of the P-51 Mustang. But, given that no decent kit really exists of this famous jet trainer, any new tool kit will be a welcome addition. 7 1
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted September 14, 2022 Author Administrators Posted September 14, 2022 Hopefully marking for the Second Flight Training Wing, “The Big 2”, the Snowbirds Demonstration Team, and hopefully some Malaysian marking as well. 5
Martinnfb Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Good news for sure, hopefully 1/32 will follow. 5

smitty44 Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Time for the Snowbirds to retire theirs 4
Artful69 Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 It sort of reminds me of the RAAF “Macchi” trainers we had/have over here … I used to see them doing a lot of formation flying when I was a kid. I'm actually thinking of reconfiguring my whole “Aussie” collection to 48 scale. There’s Mirages, a couple of F-111C Pigs and both Legacy and Current Hornets available. Rog 4
GazzaS Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I hate to ask the question "famous"? But I ne'er heard of it. 5

Well, most all airshow goers in North America have seen the Snowbirds Team, so the Tutor is well known on this side of the Atlantic. 3

The aircraft itself is sound and solid, but J-85 engine is giving all kinds of issues the older they get. Same engine as was in the T-37 and F-5. Not exactly the most reliable, even when new. And annoyingly LOUD in a screeching kind of way. 3
Martinnfb Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Their retirement is WAAAAAAAY overdue. 2

Yeah, those J-85s are long since passed by their “best before” date. The airframe has plenty of life left in it, but the engine is done. I once heard someone say that the F-5’s greatest asset is its second engine. It saved MANY aircraft from the same fate as those Tutors. Even the Tweety Bird had two engines. 2

Ernie I've seen the Snowbirds twice and what a show. The Tudor is the perfect size for a 32nd scale jet. and I would easily be in for one. 2
