Couldn't work out where best to put this , so please move if appropriate. I'll be away for a while and won't complete anything more this year , so thought this would be the time to post.

This year was a good year for me , 11 tanks / vehicles , 1 ship , 9 aircraft inc 2 biplanes, 6 dioramas and 19 figures. Sales were good too , with three going to the US, two to France ( same customer which is always nice ) a bunch of cold war stuff to a collector near me , two to a guy in the UK and also sold off some older 1/48 build cheap to clear space. Net sum loss for models bought vs sold this year was £14 ....what a cheap hobby.

Stuff I learnt :-

Three 1/48 dioramas .....yes -I liked these , nice working smaller than the trad 1/35 , although less choice of model ....reckon more of these in '24

Biplanes, loved the Glad not so the Camel , but might do some more as I feel it's an itch to be scratched .

I do really hate 1/72. I must stop being tempted by nostalgia 🥱

Late night wine fuelled purchases are ...dodgy..... but was happy with the Grant in the end

....and OPR "Oil Paint Rendering" as taught by Mike at Rinaldi Studios is for me a game changer , thank you to Nick Mayhew for making me aware of it . Go check it out and then throw all your "weathering products" in the bin !

Anyhow on with the show :-

Since you asked for others to post, I’ll do it here instead of starting a new thread.
I managed to knock out 8 this year.  Thought it was going to be 9 or 10, but the wife had too much time off in December. Seems her time off goals don’t match mine.  😱. Imagine that!
We did the Wet build.  I had three in that one project.

After that I did the Beaver liquor display.

F-14 Final Countdown was up next.

One I thought was going to be a quick build   Boy, was I ever mistaken!

Then I needed my SyFi fix and did the Star Trek Shuttle Craft.

And then one I had been searching for decals and masks for ever since the USAF went public with them.

I love the diversity of your builds , different scales subject and approaches, like them all but that Tomcat is abso-freeking-lukly awesome .

Some beautiful builds PW and Scott. I like the Gladiator picture a lot, a kit I will build as well soon, but in silver doped livery. It´s good to see, that LSM is not only LS, but open to all kinds of builds, which can be seen in the diversity of your builds.

Well, for me it was a relatively quite year modeling wise.
I was set to rig my Duchess of Kingston, but that again stalled and I ask myself, when I find the courage to continue. Hmmh, that´s where I am.

P1010929.JPG.f7bdb5fbd196e4920ce1b57d57fa499c.JPG

The Gentlemen Pellew and Hornblower aren`t amazed about that and are about to let me be flogged for my failings.

P1010927.JPG.162b8df654d99afadbaa57da3cf1c517.JPG

The  1/350 USS Arizona was a demanding project, with loads of PE involved, but I had lots of fun with the project.

P1000501(2).JPG.fdad05992dcd6f2250a67b88da3196de.JPG

I finished the delicate 1/32 Arado 234 Nachtigall. This project was stalled earlier, but this year, I found the courage to pull through.

P1000669.JPG.391adebcd8e624a33a634369f04481d2.JPG

My first full resin plane kit was a pleasure to build. The tiny 1/48 Caudron C561 was a plane, which I couldn´t resist to build, due to it´s avantgarde design.

P1000536.JPG.dd7ead925f4d5a7e523f27a1c58bb151.JPG

Another racer, but from the 80´s, the mighty 1/12 Tamiya Renault Re 20. An old kit, but still not too bad and builds into an impressive representation with some extra love.

P1000824.JPG.646469ea8f61db8582c0cb1fe0597b40.JPG

Finally something sparkling. The Tamiya 1/48 P-38 was the perfect victim for my high shine polished aluminum airbrushing ambitions.

Well here is my result for 2023, not very impressive, in fact an absolute disaster, my main hobby and this is the result, and no its not a stealth fighter.

The PCM Re 2005 nearly made it though

Cheers

Rob, what’s the secrete to the finish on that gorgeous P-38?

In short, Scott, it´s Tamiya LP1 gloss black, thinned with 2/3 of leveling thinner direct onto the plastic. There was no PE or resin involved and I therefore, skipped the primer. Tamiya LP´s are relatively durable even without priming.
Then I misted on Alclad´s polished Aluminum in very thin layers, until the blackness of the base barely disappeared. This is critical, after this point, the shine reduces.
After testing on some dummy´s, I chose Alclad over AK´s Extreme Metal, because of a slightly higher reflectivness of the Alclad stuff. I would have used AK´s product, if I had to mask onto the NMF, but I chose a scheme, where no further masking was needed and for which I had high quality decals.

In my WIP, I described the process a bit more detailed.

Cheers Rob

Very poor year for me, just one completed. This was the Italeri 1/35 Elco 80' Torpedo Boat PT-596 for the group build. On top of this,  almost completed the Tamiya 1/32 Mossie and Eduard A6M2 Zero 1/48 but alas both were not  completed. The Elco tops out at 28” or 700mm in length….

Two for me this year, both 1/48 scale.  First is the Special Hobby Buffalo 339-23, second is the Tamiya F4F-1 converted to an FM-1 via the Wolfpack wingfold set.

On the plus side, I have in process three plane models more than 50% done, three 1/700 ships more than 75% done, and four 1/24 car models about 50% done.  Hopefully these will all see the finish line in 2024, as I'm itching to start some other kits.

Just the two completions for me last year but at least they follow a vague theme both being carrier aircraft.

Hobby Boss A6E Tram

The Tamiya was certainly the easier build as it just falls together but I quite like the Intruder as it's the first folded wing kit I've done.

Have a feeling the Viggen is going to take most of this year!
