Sky King's Songbird: Update: 3/2/24 - SOD .. BINNED

Recommended Posts

Peter, sorry to hear the kit got the better of you. Especially when it's the only option for a subject.

Hopefully you'll come back shortly with something that requires less head scratching and more enjoyment.

Awe maaaaannnn. 😢I an crushed. So sorry it got to you. But don’t toss it. Leave it in the stash. One day you may decide that you want to beat it. I’ve done that. Just don’t toss it. Especially the decals etc. with your skills I know you can beat it into submission. And watch a few episodes of SkyKing. That will keep the juices flowing a little bit. I thought you were doing a fabulous job. As I said before, the true art of modelling.

I fully understand Peter, It has happened to me so many times. Your desire and excitement gets killed by poorly engineered kit with just way too many issues and obstacles clouding the enjoyment of the build itself. There is always Tamiya quality kits waiting in your stash.  Deep breath and this will all go away soon.

Sincerely

Martin

What a pity Peter, but like Jeff said, don´t bin it right away. Sometimes it´s better to lean back, relax, have your choice of drug to let your mind freely wander for a while and if you are lucky, there is a re-juicer kit on the horizon.
It´s a hobby and meant to be fun. Sometimes the hardest builds are the most rewarding, but there is a certain degree of frustration, where it´s best to step back and let some steam off.

So sorry to hear this Peter, but I certainly can understand.  This is supposed to be a hobby and thus fun, so if not fun, what's the point?  Maybe as others have said, let the kit sit for a while, and then come back and force it to submit to your great modeling skills.  You might end up with a lot of satisfaction at the end turning a not-so-good kit into a fantastic model.  If anything, maybe I can finish my JRS-1 quickly and we can move up our planned buddy build.

Great words of wisdom. I will have to keep this in mind for when I run into trouble. I think these are good thoughts and I bet Peter will get back to this in time and it will be a show stopper.

Life's too short , bin it !

Twas a nice idea, & nostalgia builds sell a lot of crappy old Airfix, but they don't bring much joy in my world . You've got 'Kit of the Year 2016' sat wanting some love . ❤️

I agree with your decision Peter. When a build is like that there's no point in sticking with it. SOD it or bin it then move on to something else. Anything Tamiya or Hasegawa would be good. Preferably in 1/32. 🙄

Guys

I've read all of the comments and posts, sat back, thought about it and decided for the time being not to bin the Songbird but for the foreseeable future, she will reside on the SOD.  Being 76, time isn't on my side and spending it banging my head against the wall and not enjoy what I'm doing just makes no sense at all. My wife and I seem to spend more of our time each week on doctor appointments and procedures and when home, I need to enjoy my time at the bench to relax and de-stress.

I decided to pick up my original planned build for the GB: Tamiya's 1/48 F-14A, mostly OOB with some upgrades and enjoy myself. I've spent the last day making some nice headway and zero aggravation. Update hopefully in a few days. Our cable service for the court was out for from Saturday evening until Sunday night, so nothing like putting that time to good use.

Just want to say Thank You to all my friends for understanding and helping me get back in the saddle.
