BlrwestSiR Posted December 8, 2024 Author Posted December 8, 2024 I've started on the Suez stripes. I also painted the gear bays in silver. 5
DocRob Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Nice Carl, this strange bird will look fantastic in your magic hands. Cheers Rob 2 1

BlrwestSiR Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 Finally, an update. I started over on masking the Suez stripes. This time it went much better. I can finally start on the upper side Dark Sea Grey now. 5
BlrwestSiR Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 For what seems like a straightforward camo scheme, there was a lot of masking involved. I had to use different tapes depending on the location but got it done. Then I sprayed the Dark Sea Grey. There's a couple small spots of overspray but it worked. I'm much happier painting stripes than using decals, even if it might be more work. 7
BlrwestSiR Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 The horizontal tailplanes have small vertical tabs on them. They're red with a yellow stripe. They're supplied as decals but I painted them on as per the Suez stripes. First a base coat of yellow. Then the stripe was masked off. Followed by a coat of red. I did the spinner at the same time. Installed on the tailplanes and then onto the fuselage. Getting closer. 8
HubertB Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Go, Carl, go ! You CAN make it before the deadline (says the man who is a "specialist" in GB deadlines) ! Hubert 1 1
DocRob Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I also hope you´ll make it Carl. The paintjob looks great and astonishingly vivid. Cheers Rob 2 1
BlrwestSiR Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 Trumpeter makes the underwing rockets in three parts. Each one is tiered so you get the rocket bodies and launch rails as one part and the fins as two parts per mount. So lots of cleanup on the fins. I painted the mounts in the underwing colours first. Then I glued the fins on. When dry, I'll mask and paint the rockets themselves. I also got the MLG installed. The wheels need cleanup and then they go on next. 4
BlrwestSiR Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 Next up, time for the prop. A bunch of parts for this. Assembled in place. 6
Landlubber Mike Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Looking really sharp! Fantastic paint job! 1 1
BlrwestSiR Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 I got the rockets painted. Dark green and then when dry, I installed them onto the wings making sure the pylon colours matched the underside location. Then the flaps, and wheels. So the dive brakes, wing tip lights and decals are left. 6
CANicoll Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Strange looking bird, Carl, but you've done a super nice job on that paint scheme and the underwing pieces. Wow, that is a LOT of work. Three pieces per rocket?? Nice work on the elevator tabs. Agreed that painting is better than decals. The fit of the kit looks really tight from here. Beautiful. 2 1
BlrwestSiR Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 Air brakes are on, as are the wingtip lights and all the little probes and protuberances. For the air brakes, I lost one of the rods so I replaced both with styrene. Now to let those dry a bit and then decals. 3
BlrwestSiR Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 Decals are now on. They're nicely thin but a bit brittle. I had a couple tear but not too badly. They are a bit translucent though. You can tell with the roundels over the stripes. 5
