Dave J
My entrie for the build is Hasegawa Bf109 F-4 Trop kit.. Will be of Hans Joachim Marseille F-4Trop W.Nr. 10137... I will throw some Eduard Belts at it and Aires Pit at it... So lets get it started!! Cockpit details grinded off with a Demel Test fitting the Aires pit... its a few mm's to short... Kit part to show the difference... Plan of attach it to cut of the mounting points and push the Aires pit into place and CA it! Panel Line on the wings are filled.. so are the hatches etc... These damn kidney inserts again! I hate these and the damn seam on the cowl! This time I have sanded the back of the insert down and used Mr Surfacer to fill in the gaps... I am sure that I will have more problems with them later!
Dave J
Next part I hate... The damn seams on the cowl! I always find that one side goes well and the other horrible... but this time they are both giving me headaches! For some reason I ended up with a step on the underside of the fuse halfs... So its been filled with Milliput.. and sanded smooth! spinner backplate joins have been filled and rivets add to the base of the spinner with a pin. Cockpit ready for splash of paint!
Dave J
Cockpit has been painted with Mr Color RLM 66, the rest of the details have been picked out using on brush with Vallejo paint. I just discovered this paint and its fantastic! Once all dried, everything was coated with Mr Color Gloss and and given a oil wash and then sealed using Alclad Kear Kote.. Eduard harness were added instead of the ones included in the Aries pit... I just hate working with them... Some AK Interactive North Africa pigments were applied to the floor area.. Pit now CA'ed into place... Just need to blow off all that dust! Still dealing with those damn cowl seams! Third time lucky??
Dave J
Front and rear canopy fitted and masked using Eduard Masks.. and dealing with the seam on the super charger intake... Ah Seams and clean up! But then I shouldn't complain as this is a walk in the park compared to my Trumpeter Jug build! Doing the stats closed once again.. so filling the small gap on the underside with some plastic strip Filed and Sanded! Some minor filling required to fill that joint!
Dave J
Fuse stiffeners fitted! (Sorry for the shocking pic!) They are self adhesive, but I added some Tamiya Extra Fine Clement over the top of them...
rkranias
good stuff Dave. the pit is exceptional and your patience on those seams...well, I share your pain. been threatening to use Milliput, sands and scribes well?
Grant
Super job Dave, I'm thoroughly enjoying this. Grant
Dave J
Rick, Milliput sand easily and no issues of scribing yet..
Dave J
Some more work on it last night... I added a MDC Trop filter... I tried to mate the cap/doors from the kits plastic part as I wanted them closed. But the diameter of the kit of the kit part is larger than the MDC part... Canopy Frames sprayed RLM 66... It looks black in the photo, but that's photoshop stuffing the colours up... Hopefully tonight, I can start throwing down some colour!

Willy
Absolutely amazing work. Just curious, you filled the seam on the spinner/backplate, how do the prop blades fit in and aren't they a single unit? BTW, unless you have read the book already, I HIGHLY recommend "The Star of Africa" to inspire your Marsellie build.
Dave J
Hi Willy, the Blades are single items and fit into the locating holes without any problems even with the spinner fitted.....
Dave J
So it was time to splash some paint around this evening.... The props were painted Mr Color RLM 70 and the spinner Mr Color Flat White which was then sealed in with some Mr Color Semi Gloss... A Black and Burnt Umber oil mixture was made up, and thinned with some Turps and brushed on... and Hair dyer was used to speed up the drying time... Then a cotton bud was used to remove the excess... Using a fine pointed brush oil streaks where added to the spinner.. Next time, onto the weathering of the prop blades...
Willy
Ah, the prop setup makes sense now, (not having built a 1/32 yet), that really looks fantastic as does your cockpit.
Matt_
Nice work Dave Just in case you want to address them, the seven holes on the underside of the wing, on the panel adjacent to the u/c bay, are fitting points for the underwing mortars carried by later versions. As such I think they probably need filling to be totally accurate. I've usually seen the filled with off cuts of plastic rod. Sorry for bringing it up late in the build - just so you have the choice...? Matt
Dave J
Thanks Matt! I will have to plug those holes! Luckily I haven't begun throwing paint at it yet...
Dave J
The spinner is now dry after sealing everything in under a coat of Alclad Klear Kote... I have been chipping away at the prop blades with a silver pencil.. I just tap, rub and draw the scratches on each blade, til I am happy with the results... Next, I add some AK Interactive North Africa Dust/pigments to tone everything in
sparbucks
Love it. Beautifully painted and weathered Dave. I have never used that pencil (is it silver?) technique. When you tap, rub etc do you mean rub with your finger to smooth it, or just rub/run the pencil down the prop a tad? Peter

Dave J
Love it. Beautifully painted and weathered Dave. I have never used that pencil (is it silver?) technique. When you tap, rub etc do you mean rub with your finger to smooth it, or just rub/run the pencil down the prop a tad? Peter Yeap its just a Faber Castell Silver Pencil... Any should work... I have even used a Caryola one before that I stole out of my Sons pencil case.... I use the pencil directly on the part, but you do require a Flat Finish to the paint. Then you can use you finger, brush or anything to blend it/soften it if you like.
