Martinnfb Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 I was trying to come up with something witty, but no luck 2
GazzaS Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Last I had heard, many ppl in Christchurch were still living in houses that had been made and declared unlivable since the big quake a few years ago. Supposedly property values in the area have plummeted. I don't know whether they've bounced back since, or not. Before the quake I had this joke about a fictitious quake in NZ... but due to the deaths in the Christchurch quake, I've been remiss to tell it anymore. Gaz 3
Martinnfb Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 Merry Christmas Ivan, hopefully everything went well and you guys are slowly saddling in. Cheers M. 3
Martinnfb Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Modified Avatar tells me that Ivan landed without any major drama . However, moving in his square-ish furniture can be challenging. 5
GazzaS Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Of course! I couldn't warn you about the NZ air force cuz they don't have one. 4

No drama whatsoever. So far, the "Axis 2.0" has been working like a clockwork and we're enjoyably exhausted and happy. We even lost weight over the Xmas holidays - an absolute first! "Eustress" at its best. LOL 6
GazzaS Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Now the question is: Can you find a MiG 23 in NZ under which to sit and sip Vodka? 3
Ivan Ivanovich Posted January 6, 2019 Author Posted January 6, 2019 Bugger! Thanks for bringing up such a painful subject! Kiwi birds (11 Taxa) - 50 to 60 thousand (declining) Kakapo - 148 individuals (critically endangered) MiG-23 - 0 4
GazzaS Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Mig-23-fishbed With Xiphactinus And Piplomystus At the Christchurch Art Museum: An etching sold in 1986... Though looks to me someone got confused between Flogger and Fishbed. https://christchurchartgallery.org.nz/collection/86-03 Gaz 4
DocRob Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Hy Iwan, you can't have everything For sentimental reasons I will show you that one, found close to my old hood in Berlin. Having no Mig's at all on my tiny island in fact there are only ATR-72 island hopper and a helicopter for those who don't respect the strength of the ocean. Cheers Rob 3
Ivan Ivanovich Posted January 7, 2019 Author Posted January 7, 2019 Interesting paint job on that MF... I really can't complain. Life's been good to us and I think I can get over the sheer lack of MiG-23s in Aotearoa. We've got Weta, lovely neighbours, landscape, gumboots and vodka. 5
GusMac Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Ivan, you need to investigate whether you can make vodka from Vegemite. Might make it palatable if you can drink it! 3

Wumm Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Vegemite... a salty paste made from Yeast, a byproduct of the brewing process... which makes you thirsty, so you drink more beer... A vicious circle. 4
Ivan Ivanovich Posted January 12, 2019 Author Posted January 12, 2019 Mmmmmh... Warm, buttered whole wheat toast with Vegemite and a poached egg on top with a splash of MAGGI seasoning sauce. I love it! MAGGI seasoning is extremely popular among (native) Saarlanders, by the way. We put it on almost everything. Be it dead or alive. 2
HubertB Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 I had never realised that liking Vegemite was a condition to settle down under Hubert 2

My mother grew up in Saarbrucken, I was born in Landstuhl, and I have relatives that live in the middle of Spiesen-Elversburg. Family name Schumann. Gaz 2

While I was on the point of hurling up my innards, my Australian family was enjoying the show. But I didn't have to eat it. Gaz 3
