mark31 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 so far so good i hope this will be the first model to go over the finnish line in 2025 9
ScottsGT Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Well that was a bust. First side I tried it in one piece. Not only did it wind up with many wrinkles, but when I went to do the other side they didn’t even come close to matching up on the bottom of the cowl. As I was applying side one I was telling myself I could have probably done a better job just painting these on after cutting out Tamiya tape as a stencil. Guess which route I’m taking now? Besides, I did some paint touch up yesterday and 24 hours later the lacquer bubbled with hundreds of tiny bubbles in that area. Not sure if it was the Micro Set/Sol it the Tamiya decal adhesive with softener in it. But I do need to sand them out now. 2 7
BlrwestSiR Posted January 4 Posted January 4 That's a bit annoying there Scott. More so with the paint reaction too. I've never of clear lacquer reacting to decal solutions and I've even used Tamiya X-20A as one without paint issues. Let us know if you figure out more. 4

I had that happen on a Tamiya Valentine I was working on, well something similar anyway. As I was applying some Decal solvent the decal shifted. The solvent made it too soft to reposition and everything went to Hell. I know how frustrating that must have been for you! 4
CANicoll Posted January 6 Posted January 6 This arrived the other day but I finally am able to post pictures. Thanks to @TJTX for this nice 104 with some extra goodies from the Christmas Raffle. 9
BlrwestSiR Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Chris, that should make a great project. The Italeri 104 gets a bad rap but It's not as bad as some folks say. I've done two so far, one in NMF. It looks like you've got the weak spots covered too. Carl 4
CANicoll Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Thanks, Carl. I did one before but without the goodies so this will be a much better build. 4

This morning I took a look at the paint and all the bubbles had smoothed out. Go figure. I used my spare set of decals and did a copy on my printer/copier and played around with making a stencil. I’ll probably be able to paint everything but the actual tigers mouth/teeth and the eyes. I can cut those out of the spare decals I have. The black outline looks simple using my paint pens. I played around on a test panel today using them. 6
KevinM Posted January 6 Posted January 6 While the MiniArt P-47 is getting close to a close time to launch another kit the Tamyia F-84 sssheee going to be shiny!I figured out what happened with my Tempest and the F-106 Dart the black base from Alclad would not dry even after a week or more.I have shifted my base to Tamyia XF-18 semi-gloss dries hard and fast if memory serves me right no acrylic clear over lacquer clear it will fracture. I was looking at the Academy F-4c Col.Olds crate have been collecting different subjects with "SCAT"from WWII to Vietnam kit looked real Nice then I looked at the stencils boxed it back up..... 7
KevinM Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The F-84G is moving right along simplicity, perfect fit and a low piece count=Tamyia fir ya.The P-47 had a couple of other pieces added this evening tail wheel area and the pitot tube tomorrow the running lights and the lower wing lens with a touch of paint. The Ta-152 will follow the F-84. 5
ScottsGT Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Cut out my “stencil” today. Did one the other day and I sat on it thinking about it and made a few mods. Now I need to remix the yellow/orange since my first attempt is just too orange. 8
ScottsGT Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Best damned tool on a modeling bench since the magnifier. 7
KevinM Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I am calling this one done fellas I had three pieces left to install two landing lights and the clear underwing light ..well as my luck has been the last I dropped the r/wing light and wala it was frigg'in gone I am not manufacturing another one I figure by the time I get done sanding and repainting I will break another gun barrel the antenna/pitot tube will both wala best to stop while ahead.I figure should it show fix it then, The kit is a worthy kit for a P-47 the subtleties of the lines and rivets are quite nice.I had no issues with the front cowling myself upon examination notches are supplied to remove any guess work on your part.I thought I had the aux.fuel tank aligned let it sit overnight well it slid some I left it been breaking to much on this one. The one thing I did not understand you have a square hole for the LG but it was loose I mean the reason for square to get a uniform alignment no guess work other than that decals/stencils worked out great beginning to not like Florry's Dust would of been fine with the Sand like you see on the bottom.I was trying to lighten the color of of the OD for sun fade not to successful but is better than the P-40. 9
