Anthony in NZ
I look forward to the time you come back to this Cees.....love what you are doing and loads of useful information on the differences. Even Wild Hare set needs 'tweaking'.
Wingco57
Picking up where I left off. Getting the rear end circular is not very easy. Also broke up the intakes as they were too wide and looked comical. This time inserting narrow strips. Destroying the nice smooth intakes in the process. So this one will have FOD-covers. The 1/48 Revell kit is for reference and will be built simultaneously. Cees 5
harv
This is such a cool build, and you are nailing. Such great clean work !.....harv
Anthony in NZ
Now, that's what we're talking about! Great update Cees and those intakes look MUCH better! Nice ti see you moved those Aux doors in the belly forward too. One thing that might help is that that back end around the cans is quite rounded as you note. Here is the WH and kit to compare.....HTH
GusMac
Great work Cees. Keep it up coz you know the promised IM version from HKM will arrive as soon as you finish this! 3
Wingco57
Thanks chaps, @Anthony, I am aware that the Spey Toom has more bulk in the rear (hmm) but I have read that the diameter of the can is between 3 and 3,3 mm. I do not want have my cans to look too large. I am in doubt as to whether I should pack out the sides or collapse the "shoulder" near the grille. On pics I have seen that the sides slope down more than the J-version. What do you think? Cheers Cees

The WH conversion appears (on the inside) to have had that done as well as bulked out at the sides. I have some measurements of the cans somewhere....I will look into it for you Cheers Anthony
Anthony in NZ
At this stage all I can find is that the lip at the rear of the burner can is exactly 39inches in diameter
Wingco57
That makes it about 3,1 cm.

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted August 18, 2020 Administrators Share Posted August 18, 2020 Very cool! I’ll have a look at those cans.
ThomasProbert
This is so cool - it looks like the shapes are very close of not spot on compared to the real thing. 3D printed cans or more scratch building?
Wingco57
If Jeroen uses his 3D drawing skills then I don't have to scratchbuild, but I do have a plan B just in case.
Wingco57
Plan C I got me a Revell F-4F for a nice price and it seems that the bum of this kit (nineties vintage, not the current tool) lends itself very well for a conversion into a FGR2. this is of course the long nose version And not compatible to the Tamiya kit. Perhaps I can mate the two.......somewhere. The rings are 3 mm so a bit too small but you get the idea. 1
Wingco57
Getting the Tamiya rear rounded isn’t going very well...... the sides are too slabsided.
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted August 23, 2020 Administrators Share Posted August 23, 2020 Whoo... never realized the butt was so different from the American version. You’ll get it right. I know you will.

Anthony in NZ
Cees you got this mate.....you look like you are getting quite close. Barry looks like he may have made some cuts down the sides? Perhaps you can graft in that Revell section??
Wingco57
Indeed, I did that too on the Tamiya but it didn't quite work out....yet. It got a bit messy. There are various possibilities. It's just a matter of which one to use.
Wingco57
I think I have found a way to splice the Revell rear onto the Tamiya kit. We'll see how this works out. Now, where did I put that saw.............
Wingco57
Pics say more than words. With some tweaking here and there this can work. 2
Barry
Hi Guys, Here is some more data that I found very helpful in shaping the Spey fuselage. If you closely study photos you will find that these drawing closely match photos. TAFN, Barry 2
