1to1scale
I Need help deciding my next Tamiya kit. I need a mojo restorer. Here are my criteria... 1. Fast build, no filling and sanding, no must needed mods (maybe resin tires). 2. Not a million parts, this disqualifies the Mossie. Something with 300 parts or less. Here are what I have in my inventory, let me know which one is the most hassle free. F-4E F-4J F-4C/D F-16 F-15J F-15E P-51D Spitfire VIII Spitfire IX A6M2 Zero F4U-1 F4U-1D I have been leaning toward on of the Spitfires or Mustang, but the Phantom and Eagle also interest me. I’m hoping to avoid a kit that needs a lot of sanding and filler work. Please share your experiences.

The Dude
Having built all those on the list over the years I also say F-16 followed closely by the P-51 then a corsair....
BlrwestSiR
I'd say the F-16 as well. Carl

TJTX
I'm currently building the F-16 and it has been exactly what you are asking for. Its brought back excitement to me that I had been lacking. Wonderful fit, not overly complicated, and at most it would need an ejection seat. The rubber tires are amazingly clean and with a light dusting of weathering pastels look perfect.
1to1scale
Wow, the F-16? I didn’t expect that, I thought everyone would have said the P-51 or Spitfire. I actually have all the paint I need and a set of HGW transfers for it. I will definitely move that to the top of the list.

I'd say the Mustang is definitely more "fiddly" than the Viper.
1to1scale
Right now, the top 4 on my list are these: 1. Mustang (thunderbird air racer) 2. F-16 3. F-15D (combining E front with CJ back) 4. F-4D (MI ANG) I'm still researching and deciding, but of all these, the Mustang is calling me the loudest. (Yes, my unbuilt models talk to me)

1to1scale
I also ordered a set of HGW transfers, but these are coming from Australia, so it may take a while.

1to1scale
I appreciate everyone’s opinions about these, for some reason, the F-16 wasn’t calling to me. But for some reason, this Mustang makes me happy when I touch the sprues. I still have not decided yet what version, but thinking about “Hurry Home Honey”, I guess that it will take me about at least two weeks to get started. I still want to at least get a few P-40 painted before I start this.
Bomber_County
I’ve two ZM 51’s, where will you be sourcing the AM decals, only ever bought 48th AM decals and was 20 years ago. thanks ........
1to1scale
The special version of the Mustang I have came with a bonus set of decals for “HHH”, but I still have about 10 decal sheets I have collected, and I may even use one of the HGW sheet versions as well.
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted April 2, 2020 Administrators Share Posted April 2, 2020 I love Tamiya's A6M series. The -2 is the nicest of the pair I think, but there's nothing wrong at all with the Mustang, either. The F-15 is a fun kit, BUT it needs some AM, so knowing you're at least as anal as I am, it's out, so if you want a blowtorch, F-16 all the way. Every single solitary person who's built one loved it. Every Last One. Needs a resin seat, and it's your choice on the wheels.
