Infinity - 1/32 German WWII Bomber ...

Apparently

These guys are asking the question Do.17 or 217 ... and also apparently Heinz (the HpH whisperer) wants a He.177 ...

If any of you lot have clout in the Balkan regions .. or a least a voice ... now would be very timely to yell "Do.17z - BoB markings please!!"

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Rog :)

Well a 17 for sure, but isn't there a general feeling that doing one in 32nd would be difficult with the lack of any real aircraft left to base a kit on?

Who would know if it wasn't accurate if there's none left?

Oh, and it goes without saying that the Do 17Z needs doing pronto, after Revell kindly did the Ju 88 & He 111 at ridiculously cheap prices.

Saw this on TOS and the He 177 was getting a lot of love?!? Too big, fugly and hardly functional but other than that.....

I'd love a Do17 and as Dean says it would go so well with the Revell pair.

Well ... That's always been my argument ... who could possibly gainsay any accuracy issues if an original aircraft hasn't been measured ...

External measurements are just the preliminaries - and I haven't seen too much moaning about the 1/48 kits from ICM etc - so they must be halfway good (and yes I know it's not just as simple as upscaling) ... most of the rest (internals etc) are done off Photos, drawings, maintenance manuals etc ... and the fact that the latest Crecy Classics series book is on the Do.17 means that there must be a fair amount of reference material floating around.

Everyone :)

Still ... just as everyone has a belly button - opinions will be rife ... and just as the sun rises and sets - some idiot will deem it unbuildable!

I was always gutted that Revell announced the He.219 instead of a Do.17z when they did ...Also ... John at AIMS would have some lovely new project work!

As much as I hope that you get either, or both, I just don't have room.  I'm guessing that there are a lot more photos of 17 details than there are of 217 details.  The ICM 1/48's are nice kits.  But nowhere near the level of detail you guys would expect.

That's OK, I'll store them in my shed for you, gratis.

Even build & show 'em off.

All you have to do is pay for the kits.

Us Welsh are generous to a fault.

Do-17z. Nothing else even comes close.

I'd be a bit concerned about schemes, because after every BoB scheme had been modelled ad nauseum, there is precious little after that that's all that interesting.

Somewhere I had heard that HK is doing a Junkers 52, so the Do-17 will fill in the gap nicely.

But what do I know? I'm the one voice that wanted an He-111b  :D

I would buy a 177 if they made it, although it has to be the least likely of the bunch to get made.

The 17Z is the airframe people have been crying out for in 1/32 for years. It's the logical choice. As long as they can get the interior close to the existing photo evidence and common sense I will be happy and also never know otherwise. If the exterior is close as can be to perfect at that scale then I can forgive the rest. It will likely hang above my head anyway.

A 1/32  177?

help me Jebus!

I have the 1/48 Hi-Tech from Special HobWaby , I look in the box once and a while and then I carefully close it back up and put it back on the shelf.

Wait, aren't you the guy who's spent the last two years on the Gotha?

The beautiful thing with a Do.17z Ern is that it can: Either - form the basis for a number of variants with very little replacement sprue-work if it the correct sort of modular design is used - OR ... it would take very little resin work from John at AIMS to provide the conversion set required for something like a night fighter variant.

You're correct about the Ju.52 ... Neil has been posting odd bits and pieces for years on FB etc ... and I think some CAD work was also presented at Telford one year IIRC. Obviously I don’t know if he’s still cracking on with it in the background but there was still a lot of work required on the Lancaster at that stage and I think the Phantom was supposed to be the next cab off the rank?!?

I hope he’s still going on with it!! That and the Do.17z are my holy grail aircraft kits!!

yes even longer , some posts go back to 2014

thats why I'm wary of the 1/48 177 kit , it is a serious model

I would build it...  I just wouldn't know what to do with it once done.

First, as everyone knows, I will not buy a kit of an aircraft adorned with a Nazi swastika. So my opinion is not even worth the famous two cents ;)

But If I bought a German bomber, it would be a DO-17, no doubt about it. And an -E even more than a -Z

What if I told you these kits would include not the Nazi swastika, but the Buddhist sauwastika in reverse-image?

Would you buy them then, HubertB you are? I can throw in some eggs and ham, any color you like.

Well let;s see...  they might not put a Nazi Swastika on the box... so they can sell it in places where is outlawed....  Finns, Bulgars, and others flew them...  So...  issues solved!  You can build as many as you want, Hubert!

Let’s not play games. I know the origins of the swastika, and that’s ok for me, and have no issue with Finnish aircrafts, for instance. But I am struggling to understand the fascination of modellers for Nazi stuff. Just MHO.

As I said, I quite like the look of the « flying pencil », hence my preference for the early marks of the Do-17. But so many modellers, and perforce manufacturers, seem ONLY interested In Nazi swastikas :( ...

Hubert

PS: if a Nazi  swastika ( you guys have noticed my choice of words and the association of « Nazi » with « swastika » ? ) is #1 on my « To avoid » list , #2 is « camoed » . I know I’m weird, compared to the average modeller. Can you imagine: I am a niche within a niche within a niche within a niche modeller  ? Certainly not a reference for market studies ;)
