That could have been so much worse. Lucky you.

I agree. It actually got onto the clear panel but that buffed out as well.  I think the saving grace was it didn't get a chance to pool on the fuselage.

Honestly, the biggest difference is that the inner pair of tubes are full length in the brass versus the stock part which is only partially moulded. Otherwise it probably isn't worth the hassle.

I was wondering the same thing sometimes we get this and that and it just gets hidden. The build looking Nice Carl I think I like to try there KI-45 never done a ZM kit. ;) Kevin

Thankfully no, or everything would have been trampled into unidentifiable bits of plastic. :D

The big saving grace was I have a spout top on the bottle so it didn't completely pour out onto the fuselage.

Kevin, give one of them a try. Their approach is a bit different from most other manufacturers. Their quality had improved with each new kit and the Ki-45 plus one of their most recent ones.

I started adding the plumbing and wiring  to the engine. There's a bunch of it that ZM provide.

IMG_20200606_205505.thumb.jpg.7aa0996046664928bc4ece48d1c23c4d.jpg

I then started on the annular radiators and armoured engine plate.

More plumbing goes behind the armour plate. IMG_20200606_211429.thumb.jpg.62db6268d48028ac7bfc3ba70d37cf11.jpg

With the radiator assembly installed, here's the left side.

The right side.

Underneath which is the area most likely to be seen once installed. I have the exhausts left to install and then the engine will be done.

The other engine will be a bit simpler as I will leave off much of the fiddly stuff.

With the display case out of the way, I got back to the 219. First thing I noticed was a small issue. Somehow the main wing spar had snapped in two.

Looking at the break, it's outboard of the fuselage and there isn't quite enough material to just glue it back together. I'll try pinning it using some steel rod. The wing skins overlap the break so that should help a bit as well when the time comes.

I decided to take advantage of the situation and work on the nacelles. This way, it was easier to maneuver them on the bench.

I needed to use some tape to hold everything together as the glue set but after some initial getting, they went on fine. I also test fit the basic engine to see what work will be needed if any.

I assembled the cowlings.

After a quick coat of silver paint, these were attached to the engines. This way, I run less chance of snapping off any of the cowl fall rods. At the same time, I did a test fit of some of the cowl panels.

It looks like I'll be able to leave at least a couple as removable and not need to glue them in place.

I then installed the non display engine to the cowl.

At this point I decided to tackle the broken wing spar. I inserted a metal rod but it was too springy and wasn't enough. I then added some doubler plates to either side of the spar and the upper wing skin. I'm hoping this will keep everything aligned and we'll see if it's strong enough.

Worst case scenario, I display the fuselage like it was at the Smithsonian.

Nice looking work!   Good luck with the spar.

I'm hoping for the best. The first try didn't hold and my second ended up misaligned. Which is why I decided to attach the wing panel hoping that'll help with the alignment.

Ok, time to show the 219 some love.

After the wing fix dried nice and solid, i added a second sheet of styrene to stiffen it up.

IMG_20200621_113338.thumb.jpg.fe39eca937f313ced33b5e2f74c3fe50.jpg

I then started on the wing root guns and ammo cases.

I then added the right side engine to the wings. From the underside there will be some of it still visible

There's much less from the top.

I aslo fitted the engine covers to the port engine. These required a bit of finessing but went in place as designed. Hopefully the right side will go as smoothly and still be removable.
