Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Peter, found out what the white stripes were used for: Info came from Yoav Efrati: The white stripes made it easier to spot raised fastener heads. These stripes were also found along the wing roots. Quite an unusual method but seems to have solved a problem…- 719 replies

Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Last evening I had a real lessons learned. After taking a closer look at the paintwork I realized that I had a lot of slight and sometimes heavier overspray on the demarcation lines: Since this is a no go for me it took me 4 hours of my lifetime (like Gary on his 109 ) to correct all this: Lessons learned out of that: a) Make thin worms and flatten them a little on the model. This really avoids over- (or under-) spray. b) The correct angle for spraying has to be kept throughout the airbrush session (90 degrees is to be kept!) c) Don’t spray at too high pressure (I airbrushed at 1,7 bar). d) I don‘t know if you can achieve such a fine demarcation line with freehand airbrushing. If you are able to (I‘m not) please do it. Saves lifetime! Now on to the black/yellow triangles…- 719 replies

Thank you Gary and you are right: The extra work will for sure pay off on your 109. The most important thing is that YOU are satisfied with the result. This is why you (and I) invest a lot in doing research and rework. Everybody to his own standard. Thanks for the tipp with the G-10 correction set. Looking really good. I will try to get it too. Unbelievable that Revell wasn’t able to create parts with the correct shape… -

What a bad kit Gary! Unbelievable how bad accuracy and fit are! You did a great job on all the Beulen! You are right: all time invested in a build to overcome the shortcomings of a kit is lifetime you won’t get back! The gaps on the wing pieces are horrible! Your chosen method for elimination is the best! I have 2 G-6 and one G-10 of the same kit in my stash. Will be the next „Mirage-Project“ when I start it (somewhere in the very far future…)🤮 -

Tonight I finished the brown: and after having cleaned my airbrush I removed all the masking (huge amount) I am happy since no paint peeled off and that the Blue Tack caused no residue. This is the result: All in all it turned out ok and how I expected it to be (for the first time I used this method). There are some places where rework is necessary but this is easy to correct with the sand color and will be the next task. Only for Hubert: It‘s not finished yet… I think I have to sponsor some:- 719 replies

Thanks for your feedback guys! I have the same fear like you Rob. Had no problems with masking tape so far. Even after a long time I had no problems especially on glass parts, which are often the last ones from which the tape is removed. Regarding Blue Tack it will be a new experience. Haven’t used it up to now. Today I will hopefully paint the brown and then judging time has come…😝 @ Hubert: it‘s not done yet but much closer to the finish-line! I do my best!- 719 replies

Thank you Frank! I really hope that the other places turn out as well. Thanks for your feedback Peter. You said there might just be a very light over spray of green onto the sand by the upper rudder. Do you mean this region: This is the preshading shining through the color. To be honest: I had to repaint the light sand above the rudder-cutout because I touched it with some green paint at my thumb.. Your second remark I don’t understand correctly:„Also the beaching on the green by the dark green seems to look a bit light“ What exactky do you mean? The area above the green is a cover which will be painted grey in the end. But I think you mean something else.- 719 replies

Now you know why the undercarriage isn’t installed up to now… I removed the Blue Tack in one place already just to see if it worked (was too curious myself): What do you think ?- 719 replies

Like Rob said the face looks absolutely convincing. Interesting to read that there are eyeball decals available. Curious how they will work! I use special artist pens with .03 mm and 0,05 mm diameter for the eyeball: And it works really nice: Pappy Boyington: H.-U. Rudel: and finally Guy Gibson: -

Same applies to me Wolf: if you don’t like it in the end you can send it to me and it will get a nice place on one of my shelves… To be honest: great paintjob so far. The red looks spot on and your attention to detail painting is stunning. Didn‘t know that Aviattic is offering decals for streaked linen. They are awesome. In the end this will be a stunning looking colorful bird! Looking forward to seeing the next update! -

With all the interior parts this will be a complex build! Will you prepare the model to look into the hull with all the details after completion? What about the tracks? Already finished? -

Thanks for your feedback! I‘m also looking forward now to finish the painting and unmask everything. Thanks for the tipp with the AK Elastic Putty. Seems to work nice. Since I love AK-products (I use their Real Colors for this build) I will order it.- 719 replies

Kaireckstadt replied to GazzaS's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Lovely work on the „Beulen“ Gary. Why did you paint the ones on the wings gloss black? Control regarding rework? What is the brown putty you used for the fuselage-bulges? Weirosters face looks great! I should really use oils for face painting. I also sometimes have the same problem with the Molotow pencils like you. Returned to BMF like you if the oleo is too long. Looking forward to seeing the next update! -
