You can sand the rear panels front edge to match them up a little...or skin the side panel with some plastic card to build up the lower edge. The fat lady hasn't sung ...yet.

It is surreal because it is a singular complaint being given maximum exposure of the wrong kind. Thats why it feels a little 'wrong' And is the definition of what sucks the most about the internet and human behavior in general. I used another manufacturers wood grain decals years ago and it is well documented in A Gotha on three model forums. So an argument can be made that a mod should not plug one manufacturers product. This is how forums go a little sideways and can turn into a place where only the mods friends can get recognized or promoted. I know yer a good guy Ernie and my suggestion is valid but not applicable to you in this case , just an example of what can happen. I like it here and I can say what I want without the almighty judgement day coming down on me. It looks to me that the problem is on its way to being resolved properly. A look into the timeline of B 17 supply in WW2 we see od/grey to start and then a switch to nmf as the realization that there is little need to camo a plane that leaves a 10 mile long vapour trail behind it. So there was no nmf/grey period to speak of as the decision to not camoflage the planes covered the stoppage of both upper and lower painting. Thats how I see it , the camo/nmf aberrations we see are exactly that ; aberrations from assembly of damaged planes. HAlf & half fuse, wing tips , whole wings etc were used as they could be. But no horizontal splits as suggested , just paint/nmf changes on panle lines as they are put together. I have a dozen B 17 kits 1/72 , 1/48 AND THE BIG ONES TOO! Heres how I'll do mine:A jet black insurrection intruder.

If you guys can get your head wrapped around the idea that WNW was run as a 'loser' you may be able to get a little more understanding as to the decisions made. For me , it starts to make sense that if you are already running at a loss , whats a Lanc or two ? PJ makes a frikkin TON of cash , he needs a loser or two to help balance taxation.
