  1. I don't think you will have any problems, but this has given me fits with fit and assembly, some of the issues are caused by me, but its hard to get it right when the paint itself throws everything out of whack. Strangely, the Snipe I built went together so much easier.
  2. Thank you for the compliment, but... No, its not. I hate decals, and the extreme amount of decals means I have quite a few crappy areas. Aviattic decals came out OK on all the top surfaces, but silvered on the bottoms, and the Wingnut decals are about as compliant as the DMV. Once again, these decals are fighting me all the way. I will never do another Lozenge decal plane again! I would do masks before another. I am finishing this, but I don't think its NATS worthy.
  3. Decal work continues, got the prop finished, painted a few more tiny parts, and pit together the Master barrels on the Wingnut bodies. Next is some touch up work and and some clear before weathering.
  4. I will end up OK, I actually have a very specific set of skills that if I can find the right company to match it with, makes me employable. The only negative is that not many companies employ remote workers for these positions. I would most like to get into a govt job, but those are even harder to find. My wife still works and makes more than me, and we will have to cut back on expenses a lot. I am planning to go sell my car to carmax tomorrow, so that will $700 a month free, plus my son starts public school next month, so that another $1000 a month free. Other monthly services will add up to about $600, so we will still be able to make it, plus I have a 6 month savings I can employ, and as a last resort, I can always tap into my 401K if things get really bad. The thing I most regret is the house we bought a year ago for 3x the payment of our previous house.
  5. I believe its like real auto paint, you have a base-coat, then a 2 or three part catalyzed clear. once its on, its tough as nails, and can be polished and buffed like a car.
  6. People at my local IPMS, there are some really talented guys I am always learning from.
  7. Yes, by phone, more of a heads up call. He told me the program that supports the engine, are having our positions terminated, one person will be responsible for finishing contractual obligations for the next two years (not me, but the most inept), two other are being transferred to another new program, and I am left hanging in the wind, since they no longer have the type of work I do. (Government Contract Bidding) Even worse. he gave me no definitive date, or whether I may have a chance to apply for another program, or if they will offer me a layoff package. Just told me they will make a decision in August. What makes it a difficult situation, I work from a home office, so positions for that situation are few and far between. I work 750 miles from the office, and 250 miles from the closest location. We moved to Murfreesboro, TN so my wife could take a promotion at her company, my company agreed that I could do my work remotely, and it has worked out well for everyone since. What makes this look bleak, is they technically can offer me a local position in Dallas and if I don't take it and move back, then they can say I refused to work and don't have to give me a layoff or allow me to get unemployment. I am hedging my bets and starting to look at options I may have. Although, locally it looks bleak, I have a few options 45-70 min drive away. My best option for work is two hours away, which is not sustainable.
  8. What did I just get? A call from my boss telling me the program I work is being terminated at the end of September, and I probably wont have a job afterwards. The joy of working Govt contracts with a big corporation.
  9. Ernie, I have been contemplating this question for over a year, my only conclusion is to build it myself. I looked at many types of displays, commercial and home, nothing is deep enough for even a B-25 in 1/32. The problem becomes tempered glass shelving (if that's what you want), it becomes extremely expensive. I got quoted $400 per 28 x 42" single shelf. so 5 of them would cost me $2K, and that's not including anything else. The solution I came up with was to use existing cheap furniture from Ikea. You can get a tower cabinet with four 60" glass panels for $60. There is no way you can buy that glass alone for anywhere near that price. You build the front and sides of your cabinet in wood and use the glass panels, then maybe use parts of other furniture for the shelves. Custom is the best option I found.
  10. Yes, it’s used on model cars, it’s a catalyzed A/B paint system, but you get amazingly smooth paint. Check out Zero Paints http://www.hobbyworld-usa.com/Store/index.php?id_category=1123&controller=category
  11. If you want a kick ass white, try the two part model car paints, those make some beautiful finishes.
  12. Do an eBay search for “microscale decal red” I saw plenty on there.
  13. Micro scale used to sell 5x7 sheets of solid colors, but you are probably looking at a 20 year old decal that would be very fragile. Might be better to paint it.
  14. I was thinking the exact same thing! Love the dirty Greek birds.
  15. The wings on top and bottom fold against the long wing, and a “foot” comes out of the engine pod. I have a 1/48 scale Resin kit made by Alfred Wong I bought about three years ago.
  16. I checked my copy, so far no short shorts or funky issues I see.
  17. Although, this build will go quick, it’s being built OOB mostly, the last P-51A I built took about 6 weeks.
