  1. Mark Great choice for your next build and will be along for the journey
  2. Mark, Thanks so much for the kinds words. I am surprised at the quality and fit of a kit first released in 1967 before computers and pc's.
  3. Thanks Hubert, very much appreciated. I took your advice and suggestion and purchased a Yellow Wings Kingfisher decal sheet for the wheeled version and will use it on my float version. Just a shame Yellow Wings has closed up shop as their decals and subjects were terrific; most likely the owner decided it was time to retire like the rest of us old geezers.
  4. Sasha Super progress and the wheel well detailing looks terrific.
  5. SUBASSEMBLIES Three Quick Grab Shots Please excuse the grab shots but I just wanted to show my progress. So far, my journey Back to the Future has been a boat load of fun. I’ve been pleasantly surprised that part fit has been very good, just a bit of cleaning up the right wing slight misalignment and I’m willing to bet it just might have been me. Al the interior surfaces were painted with my own mix of interior green, closer to bronze green and I’m happy with the color. Most of the interior details were brush painted with either Model Air and Tamiya LC paints. The Front office and rear gunners’ area were finished off with Tamiya Black Panel Line Wash to pick out the details, dry brushed with Model Air Aluminum and seatbelt were added. The IP PE was painted with Tamiya Nato Black Lacquer, as was the gunners PE MG Ring – looks pretty good. For such an old kit, the addition of the small PE fret, adds a lot of interest and detail. The wing seams needed some CA to clean up slight seams and gaps - finished. The P&W R-985-4 Wasp Jr was molded as part of the front portion of the engine cowling and nicely detailed. With the PE ignition ring and spark plug wires, the one piece engine part looked sweet after detail painting. The prop also needed a bit of cleanup and the propeller blade counter balance weights – four tiny pieces of PE were added. With all the assemblies and parts glued into place, time for some test fitting and getting ready to add the interior assemblies and glue up the fuselage halves.
  6. Chris Not sure about Tamiya RT being mostly acetone. Just go slow as Sprue glue is a bit messy at times and does need to dry completely.
  7. Kriss Nice progress - decals and markings look very good.
  8. Mark terrific work and some mighty fine weathering
  9. Been using Sprue Glue for decades and even way back in my model railroad days, we called it goop made with Testor's Liquid Cement and good styrene Hasegawa). Since I discovered Tamiya Extra Thin decades ago, the mix has changed, and I use two types: Tamiya Extra Thin and good styrene (Tamita or Hasegawa) Tamiya Extra Thin and Evergreen White Styrene - my preferred mix. I try to keep the mix about the consistency of thick yogurt, brush it on or use my filler spatula and try work it into seams and large gaps. Needs a good 24 hours to completely dry.
  10. John Some mighty nice progress. Perfect paint work as always ...
  11. Bill Nice progress and your IP looks so good.
  12. Chris Nice progress on the Voodoo and looking good and working around raised panel lines is a delicate proposition. I'm finding the same with the Kingfisher and I'll scribe the raised P/L I wipe out. Same as you, just going slow and being as careful as I can.
  13. Kriss The masking results do look good, but hand or air brushing seems to produce a more convincing cammo. Of course, hand work takes a lot more skill and not all of us can achieve that level of work - masks then become the only answer.
  14. Fran Right with Martin. Thank you for the review and I'll be looking to add the Mitchell to my collection
  15. Chris Nice repair, always extra fun when things go so well and the IP is looking good
  16. Thanks Phil .. back to the Future. back then I was also mainly a 72nd scale builder until I wandered into the Squadron Shop Hobby Shop in Syosset, NY. Things then changed forever.
  17. No idea but I'm also waiting and counting the days. Seems the Good Old USA is now the last to receive a lot of new kits, ho times have changed. 🙁
  18. Gaz Looks fantastic but 2.5 hours - nothing speedy about this technique but the results are well worth the work and time 👍
  19. Mike Congrats on the save -as it's always something. Geez, you're making fantastic progress and the Buffalo looks awesome for sure. getting closer and closer to the finishing line and I can't wait to see her with all the markings on.
  20. Hubert Thats perfect - now I can buy a set of Yellow Wing decals from Sprue Brothers👍
  21. Thank Mike, Very much appreciated. I too love the pre-war scheme but finding correct decals are nearly impossible and Yellow Wings Decals have closed their doors. The SB only has a set for the wheeled version, so the markings are incorrect, same with the kit decals.
