Gaz I do a lot of photography in the winter and when a scene is underexposed with snow, a lot of blue creeps in. As the under exposure increases, the light blue hue, starts to go more towards the grays. One thing that is important, trying to match colors to what you see on your monitor isn't a good idea. Most monitors that are not photographically calibrated every few weeks, the colors are off quite a bit, way too bright and bluish. It's a misconception that you can calibrate a monitor by eye regardless what the manufacturers say: you can't. What you wind up doing is adjusting the colors and brightness to what you like but not the standard. Believe me, as a photography being a session for almost my entire life, and especially in the digital age, don't rely on the colors you are seeing on your monitor or even in a book or magazine. Odds are what was posted wasn't those colors and the colors that were posted suffer the same. Back to the topic; just add a tinge of blue to the white to cool it off a bit and it should work just fine Peter

Phil, I git lucky. I'm testing Hataka lacquers just to make sure they behave like Mr Color and not MRP Peter
-
Thanks Scott I do have a nice supply of pipettes and try to use tem. Problem with MR Color, it's as thick as molasses and the pippetes have a hard time with them. I'll keep trying. One nice thing about Hataka, they are in a squeeze bottle. Peter

Thanks Nige and to think we've been using these glues and paints since we were little kids! Peter
-
HI Nige Right now I'm using Mr Color Level Thinner and no problems to report. Yup, agree, the glues smell as bad or worse then the paints and I'm sure are as harmful or maybe even more so Peter

Never, ever had I experienced paint crazing but it has finally happend. I’ve been air brushing lacquers over Mig Gray Primer (an acrylic) with zero problems for years and In fact, the entire Corsair paint job is Gloss Mr Color over Mig Primer and perfecto: no problems. I decided to paint the drop tanks a slightly different shade of Gloss Dark Navy Blue and used a brand spanking new bottle of MRP Paint. Usual procedure is a few mist coats, followed up with three wet coats for the a super smooth gloss finish. With in a few minutes, I began to see a lot of crazing and discoloration. OH NO! Thinking somehow the three wet coats were just to much, I strip the drop tanks down to bare plastic and then re- primed with Mr Surfacer 1200 and let dry for a good 24 hrs. Then I re-shot the drop tanks as before with MRP. I fell right off my chair - the drop tanks were all crazed and stained again. Before the MRP was air brushed, I checked the primed drop tanks and they were perfect. Stripped them again, re-primed with Mr Surfacer and then re-shot them this time wih Mr Color to a super smooth, deep gloss finish. Perfect finish and zippo crazing. My only conclusion: stay clear of MRP for multiple wet coats needed for a gloss finish, as the level of thinner must be ridiculously high as the paint is like water. I shot the MRP straight from the bottle, with 4 drops of mild retarder added, as I have always done for years when doing gloss finishes and no ptoblems until I tangled with MRP. Using up my supply for only matt finishes and then: good bye! Peter

Mike Thanks for posting - the Yahu IP looks mighty good Peter -
To be honest, as times go by, I worry more and more about the harmful effects of the paints we use. I shoot in a spray booth with dual fans, wear a good grade respirator at least when I paint. Acrylics and enamels have their own negatives as well. But I’m willing to bet, breath for breath, the glues we use are as bad or worse then the paints I never wear a mask or respirator when gluing and I’m bent over the model for hours at a time. Maybe there is a lot more we need to consider and even worry about. Peter

John Incredible progress and you have the Tamiya Corsaurs down to a science. Looking mighty good and glad the wings are lowered. Besides the in the raised position, breaking the spar is easy to do, it’s a pain air brushing the fuselage around them. Keep ‘em comin Peter
