Well, the top deck looks a bit skewed with the rear lower than the front (but that is good to evacuate water in heavy seas), but I am sure it will be fixed when gluing and adding the rear platform posts. In short : 👍 ! Hubert

1/48th HP Halifax BIII - Fonderie Miniatures
HubertB replied to ThomasProbert's topic in Non LSM 'WIP
Actually, comparing the FM kit to a sow’s ear is not very kind for that poor sow … But Tom nevertheless is a new kind of super-hero for vanquishing this one 👍 ! Hubert -
Regarding the HB W-29, I always wondered how they could expect the rear gunner to stand manning his gun and rotating in all directions without stepping through this bottom transparent panel … My interpretation of this, on my scratchbuilt Aichi Hansa, which was started before we even knew WnW existed, was to add a mobile grid that would take the weight of the gunner when standing. Probably not historically accurate, but common sense, for me at least. Ok, end of thread drift. Hubert

Oops ! The problem of being as old as the Revell kit 😂 https://brexitmodeller.com/forums/topic/29213-uss-arizona-1426-scale-revell-kit-with-toms-model-works-pe-detail-kit/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-158790 Hubert

Re-enacting « Tora ! Tora ! Tora! », Peter ? I understand the frustrations, but shooting at the wings 😱 ? Hubert 🤣

Retiring to the Ardennes ? Now, that’s pushing obsession VERY far 😂 ! Hubert, who, less originally, retired to sunny Portugal (but whose name Saint was from the Ardennes, and, after converting to Christianism, and forgiving game hunting, ended up founding the town of Liège, being its first bishop )

Here is a link to a build thread of the Revell 1/426 AZ. The split of the superstructures in the middle of the portholes is typical of the mold technology of the time. Because of the cutting angles of the molds (a few degrees) imposed by the mold release constraints, a « vertical » wall of a superstructure was impossible, hence the splitting in halves. But this was 1959 technology, where the concepts like spark-erosion of molds, or slide-molds, was not even a SiFi dream. Even if it’s not brand new, your kit took the easy way out of research, by copying a 64 years’ old kit Hubert

LSM Modelling News 2023 merged Fran and Artful69’s threads
HubertB replied to Fran's topic in Modelling Discussion
The difference is called VAT, Fran, applicable to all European citizens buying from an European company… VAT is like croissants: a French invention that has known an incredible worldwide success (although, to be fair, the croissant was created in Vienna. The bakers were allowed by the Austrian emperor to create a pastry in the shape of a crescent, to celebrate a victory against the Ottomans - not sure about which one, but I believe it was in Timisoara, now in western Romania) Hubert -

It looks like you have beaten the hardest compound curves. So, what did you use in the end, standard foil, or the sticky pipe tape ? Hubert -
The more I see this kit, the more it looks to me like an up-scaled Revell Arizona … Hubert

I could almost bet you wished more than once that they had put the front diving planes back on the hull, up-front, rather than leave them on the sail, after the lengthening process … Hubert -

I hope your mojo will take you through this build. This kit is the only one that prompted my getting out of my sacro-sanct 1/32 scale Looking forward to see more Hubert -

Hi Rob, Interesting collection. The USS Parche model (SSN 683 btw, not 693 - a typo) with its strange shape, prompted a quick search from me: interesting story, to say the least, and I understand your « exciting » comment Show us your WIPs Hubert -
Me, it's the contrary. I always wonder why it does not bond the parts I want bonded 😂 ! Hubert

Well guys, there actually is a 1/32 F-111 kit … a vacform from Tigger Models. Now, we have overcome one hurdle, i.e. scratching the cockpit; and another guy is preparing a 3D-printed MLG well. Anyone willing to 3D design TF-30 exhausts 😏 ? Hubert

Wow, Rob, I know I’d never be able to fold and glue PE, especially of this size, without sending it on a Moon-circumventing trajectory Hubert

Ha ! But it was a lot more work in the « good ol’ times of Uncle Josef ». Can you imagine the amount of work it meant for Beria’s clique to expunge the opponents and « enemies of the revolution » from all the documents and pictures of the time 😰 ? Hubert

Actually, not that it makes a difference in the end, I beg to differ with you in this case, Ernie. I remember well that, back in the summer of 2018, members who were banned or asked their account closed on LSP subsequently appeared in their posts as « Guest_xxxxx ». Here, and that is true for Jennings as well, deleting the account means all posts from the member, Maru in today’s discussion, have been deleted as well, the only trace remaining being when the post was quoted in someone else’s post. Maru appears as a name and in these quotes, but her posts on LSP are gone … So I suppose this is a different software they are using, because this process has to be automated, as I do not see how one can review and then hit the « delete » button for the 22 000 + posts Maru had posted during her membership on LSP… Ultimately, it does not make a difference. As someone else said in this thread, their loss and our gain. Hubert

My afternoon project that took me all week
HubertB replied to ScottsGT's topic in General Discussion
My problem is generally the reverse. For me, nothing’s worse than having to break your back washing dishes and pans (I am 6’ 3’’). So my criterion is always the height of the bottom of the sink, and I design the counter accordingly. Fortunately, I will have a new kitchen installed in the house I am about to buy, so I will have the kitchen the way I want it (and not the way most kitchens are designed, with too low tops - for me and my wife at least - as in the current, rented, house.
