  1. Thanks mate! I'm thinking backdrops might be the way to go in the future.
  2. That front clip looks great! Wouldn't the 'sealings' around the windows actually be metal? I know that was done on some older cars. I'm kinda thinking that by 42' they would have become quite parsimonious with it.
  3. Guys, Thanks for your efforts and replies. I took some daylight photos and they don't look much different, though it is foggy outside. Maybe sunlight would have offered some better contrasts. My wife offered to let me use her Olympus E-620 which allowed me to take detailed macro shots. It hadn't been used in a few years, and I guess she was tired of hearing me bemoan my inability to take decent pictures. It took a couple days between recharging the batteries, work, and moving my daughter into her new place. Luckily there was a .pdf manual online. Now, I can peel the foil off and continue improving the plastic surface. Gaz
  4. Hello friends! As some of you know, I've embarked on a build of a restored P-40 finished in NMF. I'm going to foil it. However, I haven't added rivets to a foiled model before. So, I've made two comparison test panels. Both have been finished the same way, and the rivets made with the same rivet tool, the Rivet-R using the 1mm spacing wheel. The difference is that one panel had the rivets made below the foil, and on the other panel, the rivets were made on the foil. Don't pay attention to the wrinkles. They are there because the wing surface won't become rigid until cemented to the lower surface. Also, I made a mistake while trimming a panel, removing a slim wedge of foil and ruining the panel. One is marked "A" in all of the photos whilst the other is marked "B" in all of the photos. The lighting and direction of lighting was kept constant, though in the various pictures the wing was rotated. Please let me know which set of rivets look more realistic to what you'd expect to on a scale model with NMF finish. Thanks in advance! Any further comments you'd care to make will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Gaz
  5. I don't know if I'll ever be completely retired. I don't ever want to have too much time on my hands. I think it's good to have something to look forward to after doing stuff you are required to. Besides... not sure which will end first... my life or my mortgage...lol Gaz
  6. If you choose to believe wiki, none of the RSO's served in the Ost. Who could argue with your choice? Gary

  9. Ja, Ja... but how often do I get to say “Polska!”? And I only know one other Polish word!

  11. Heh,.. for a minute I thought this was a machine being used by the Germans... then I realized it said "Marines" on the side, and not "Marine". Silly me!
  12. Holy shit! Those rivets take it from 8 to 80! Very nice!
  13. Really? Sound ridiculous to me. Can't they just face the fact that the system just didn't work?
  14. I really... really hate sanding around small raised details. How do you do it? I even tape over them sometimes and they still cop it.
  15. Surely there has to be a way... unless ya hain't got no TV or interweb?
  16. That's one that never really rocked my boat.
  17. I have another little bit of info to share from my time at El Toro. The F4 uses a lot of fasteners that aren't rivets for easy access for ground crews. What you are calling rivets and washers here are actually a type of Allen head screw: But they are slightly different in that they are fixed to the panel so that when unscrewed, they stay with the panel. And I'm pretty sure they're not steel. The ground crew use these to unscrew them quickly: I know it's a day late and a dollar short... but it'll help explain what you're seeing here:
  18. it's looking great, Ern. But I still don't know what SWAG is.
  19. It starts here on Wednesday! Yippee!!!
  20. They are Sockeye Salmon or Red Salmon. The one with the hooked nose is the male. They return to their birthplace to spawn and die after 5 years at sea.
