  1. Sounds about right but 9-10 hours is better.
  2. A couple stalled projects have made a guest appearance on the bench. Although technically they never left the bench and were just put to one side but I digress.
  3. Scott, I wish prime rib cost that much. But probably a good thing for my waist line and heart. Hmm, I have a Wustof boning knife and haven't had any issues with it. Odd yours isn't holding an edge. I also have several Japanese single edged kitchen knives and those are awesome. Super sharp blades and just great to use.
  4. The big thing with brisket is do it low and slow. I did ours at 200°f for 10 hours. I was going to do it on our Big Green Egg but the outside temp dropped to -15°C so I used the oven. Rubbed it with chili powder, brown sugar and salt. Equal quantities of each. Then dropped in on a roasting rack and left it. At the 6 hour mark, I wrapped it in butcher paper and let it finish cooking. That's all it took. Brisket is probably the most economical cut of beef for us at the moment. It was $105 for the 15 lb brisket which works out to $7/lb but that's Loonies. So $4-5 USD. I'd love a bone-in rib steak but those are around $25/lb. Prime rib is the same. If you want a comedic tragedy, for Christmas dinner with my folks we bought an 11lb Prime Rib and as it was so big I had to keep it in a cooler in the garage with ice packs. Sue put Jimmy in the garage a couple nights before when we had guests over. Guess what he found? Yup, ate almost the whole thing raw. Then started puking it up all over the house. I joked that maybe we should just pick up and wash the chunks and make a stew. I ended up scrambling around the next day to find a replacement. Most expensive Christmas dinner I've ever made.
  5. Our oldest wanted brisket for his birthday. So 10 hours later... 15 lbs of AAA beef.
  6. Nice fix on the turret basket. Definitely a silly mistake that should have been caught in QC.
  7. Looks great there John. Nice and smooth like Martin said .
  8. It definitely won't feel like it's at a NASCAR track now.
  9. The other wings are now on. These went on the same as the port side.
  10. Looks great John. Nice paint job as always. Just need a Fruitbat to go with it.
  11. Ah, that makes sense. It's the equivalent of putting an LS in everything. Have you seen the 1st gen Smart ForTwo that had a Hayabusa swap? Goes like stink down a dragstrip.
  12. Next up was the rudder. The beaver tail (for want of a better term) has a mould imperfection in it. I realized the rudder will cover it completely so I didn't bother fixing it. With the rudder in place. I then started on the flying surfaces. The tabs for the tailplanes were slightly longer than the slots in the fuselage so I trimmed them slightly and then glued the port one in place. Then I test fitted the port wing, made some small adjustments and glued that in place. The small gap at the wing root needs a quick full and then onto the starboard side.
  13. Time for an update on the Seahawk. After getting the engine done, when I test fitted it into the fuselage there was a gap around the cowl. I sanded down the cylinder heads a bit as well as the firewall and got things better. I finally gave in trying to get a perfect fit and just glued the fuselage halves together. The gap at the front is probably no worse than on many IM kits so I just filled and sanded it down.
  14. First try at painting the body has been a failure. Bunch of dust and particles in the paint. Of course the chassis came out fine. I'm going to sand back the body and try again.
  15. Nice start there Mark. I did the White Bunny a few years ago with some custom masks. The LFD intakes are a different approach to most of the AM intakes on the market. Looks like they might be easier to blend into the fuselage since you're using the kit outer panels. Carl
  16. One of the shops up here had the I Love Kits Easy 8 kit on sale at Christmas time. $100 CAD which is like $65 USD. I couldn't find any reviews on it so passed. I'm hoping for a 1C hybrid Firefly myself. The Canadians stuck so much extra track on them as applique armour they looked distinctive.
  17. Great paint job on both planes, especially on getting the squiggles done. I'll have to remember to try that on the ZM one in the stash. I have the same airbrush and like you, I'm fairly certain it's made by Iwata. Parts are compatible between them that I've tried. Carl
  18. I Love Kits does one. No idea on accuracy
  19. Chris, the newer ones are made from very thin steel rather than the thicker brass of the old ones. They bend easier as a result. But mostly if it these are they're pretty much the only option for belts on an F-4 in 1/48 without getting a cockpit set. I've found that bending them slowly, they're less likely to lift. Sharp bends are when they tend to peel. If they do peel, I just use Tamiya clear to stick them back down. Here's a set on my Curtiss Seahawk.
  20. Aren't we a terrible bunch?
  21. Let's see: - 1/16 M3 halftrack - 1/16 Leopard 2 - 1/32 P.1101 There goes my modelling budget for the year.
  22. They've also announced a 1/16 PaK40 and a 1/32 P.1101!
  23. I finally got my BNA order from November. It was caught up in the Canada Post strike and I guess they're getting through the backlog. Mostly 1/48 F-4 stuff But also decals for the big Jagdtiger and F-35 in the stash too.
