BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks Peter. It'll be nice to carry on with the RCAF theme. Have fun. Watch out for bears and we'll be here when you're back. -

That just about matches my setup. Hope to see you start on yours soon. Any idea on what plane you're going to do? -
RCAF Liberator GR Mk VI
BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thanks everyone. I'm glad to finally get one of these four engine heavies finished. Yup, I've dug out my CF-104D build and hope to get this finished. A new display case is indeed in the cards. I just need to make sure I make it big enough to hold the model. -

Time to call this one done. The turrets are on, as are the props. I added a couple antennae to fuselage and that should be it. Oh yeah, decals too. All 8 of them. I'm going to have to find a place to put this beast but for now, she's going to live on the unused part of my bench. Now onto another pre-started build. -
Tamiya Spitfire MK XVIe
BlrwestSiR replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
The one problem I had with the Tamiya stand is it's not dynamic. It holds the model straight and level. I used one on my Spitfire VIII but I carefully bent the vertical support so that it has a slight angle to it. Not sure how week it shows in the pic but to me, it looks much better. Carl -
I haven't tried the Quick Wheel template before but I do use a regular circle template for painting wheels and it makes things much easier and faster. I've ordered from BNA a few times and even to Canada, they have great service. Carl

Lovely Spitfire Peter. Glad to hear you got everything solved. It was well worth the effort. I've got the Whirlwind in the stash too. Need to start that one one day. Carl -

Thanks Martin. Can't wait to see you start on your B-24(s). The Lib is so much bigger than the Lanc it was surprising to me. Hope to see you start on your Lanc and I need to get back to mine as well. Thanks Peter. It wasn't that bad thankfully. Just the couple bombs and the ends of the racks. So a quick fix. Here's the repainted bombs back in place. I then fitted the open bay doors. Lastly, I glued the tail assembly in place. This thing is getting bigger and heavier... -

I popped the bomb bay doors off the fuselage. I had used the closed ones as a mask. Unfortunately I still ended up with some overspray on the bombs and supports. I got a couple of the worst offenders off the racks and masked them and did some touch ups. Then I painted the opened bomb bay doors and once dry I'll put everything together. -

Bill, next time maybe try a hair dryer or a cloth dipped in hot water and then press on the decal. I've found that Japanese decals respond better to heat. Carl -
You are really beating this kit into submission Ernie. Even the shake and bake kits don't always go as planned. I was looking at my Lanc fuselage last night and noticed that a couple of the fuselage window had popped loose. No choice but to open her up, find the loose windows, glue them back in and reassemble the fuselage. Not pretty but that's what filler is for.

It got grusome but I was able to remove one engine from its nacelle. I glued in 30¢ which worked out to 75g. The other side was less cooperative and I ended up ripping the entire nacelle off instead of the engine. Whoops. Thankfully the exterior will just need a bit of touch paint. I glued in another 30¢ there and...- 227 replies

A lovely looking Dauntless. You need a RNZAF Corsair to go with it now if you haven't done one already. Carl -

I tried removing one and the cowl came off easy enough. The firewall is recessed and I'd have to pry it out carefully. I'm going to see if I can when I'm back at the bench. -

Ok, I found an easy fix and apparently one which some ground crews used. A barrel under the rear fuselage. She sits level now. -

Kai, that's a pretty good idea. It would require a base of some sort which I'm not sure I'll use due to space constraints. Peter, the instructions say 300g of weight are required. If I recall, I added about 350g but then had to remove some to try and get the fuselage closed. That may have been my downfall. It's definitely one I'll have to keep in mind for other builds down the road. Much easier too than trying to cram all the weight in. -

Good news. The legs are strong enough to hold the model up. Bad news, I threw the tailplane assembly on and she's still a tail sitter. Some quick messing about and it looks like I need about 60g more nose weight. No idea how I'll get that in at this point. Might just have to put a barrel under the fuselage... -
I got a couple things in the mail today. First up is a KASL intake for the F-16. Much better detail and quality than the GT Resin one. Some circle masks in various diameters. A couple mask templates for larger circles and squares. Plus a barrel for the Su-122-54. Lastly a couple gas caps for the KH F-5 series. More tank barrels. One for the M18 Hellcat and another for the Titan 4. A small scale kit. I hope my eyes are up to it. Lastly, an even tinier scale model. One word, Vampire!!! Okay, Nosferatu but same thing.

Fantastic progress Peter. . I'm glad to hear you're going to give masks a try and practice with them some more. They may not always be easy but I'm sure you'll master it. Carl
