ZM A-1 Skyraider back on tap!

Great job on the engine. Makes sense to not do stuff you won't see. Carl -
RCAF Liberator GR Mk VI
BlrwestSiR replied to BlrwestSiR's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Ernie, thanks for checking in. Doing an RCAF bird just made sense once I found out we used them. The Eduard Riders in the Sky 1/72 kit was the impetus for this and I almost bought one but then found the decals for this kit. The wing shape is a huge mistake on Hobby Boss' part and Iain is doing a great job fixing it. I probably have the skill to do what he's doing but I knew that if I tried, the motivation to finish would be a huge bear to maintain. I mean, I'm almost to the home stretch and I'm already looking at other kits to build and set this aside again. -

Don't look too closely or you'll see a lack of progress. I'm stuck on the props as I'm not keen to work on them for some reason. Need to get back to it and get them done...oh look shiny yellow thing. -

Here you go: https://www.zoukeimura.co.jp/download/A1H1p_advice_en.pdf If that doesn't work, here's the page it's on: https://www.zoukeimura.co.jp/en/products/sws03_skyraider.html -
Drivers here in Toronto are getting to be the worst. Folks don't stop for lights any more, much less stop signs. One of my wife's best friends just had her son killed Thursday by a driver not yielding and turning on red. He was 26. Her son is dead and the driver might, and I emphasize the might, pay a $200 fine for turn not in safety if they don't get off.. Complete BS.

Looks like Titan Models is working on a 1/72 kit of the Mriya. https://www.titanmodelkits.com/future-releases.html It'll be a combination of vac, resin and 3D printed parts.

ZM A-1 Skyraider back on tap!
BlrwestSiR replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Glad to see this back on the bench. I managed to get one for a great price a little while back. The first one I built I didn't have any issues with the wing fold. ZM had revised instructions for the wing fold on their website that supposedly make it easier(?) to put together. -
So I got the Element fixed and she's running fine. I'm parked on the street and a delivery guy backs into the driver's door. They promptly take off. The door is nicely crunched in and since it's a hit and run, I'm on the hook for the $1000 deductible if I bother to file a claim. Plus the inevitable rate increase from filing a claim. The neighbour's security cam shows the crags but the angle is wrong to make out a plate.

Nice set of car kits Peter! I built the Tamiya version of the XJR when (the correct) tobacco markings still came in the box. A couple AM companies do them if you're thinking of getting the car to look as it raced. Speaking of decals, the yellow 'vette with the stars and stripes is a C6.R and it looks like you've got a pair of C7.R kits. Carl

It's a nice kit. It goes together very well. I don't recall any issues when I built mine. There is no interior detail though.

Nice pair of tracked kits Martin. The Sheridan is a fun looking tank. I bought the RFM version as I wanted a later variant. Let us know how the Cromwell/Centaur is. I keep waffling on getting the Tamiya one.

Tamiya Spitfire MK XVIe
BlrwestSiR replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Lots of lovely progress there Peter. The wing leading edge inserts on the Spitfire always give me problems too. Even after build 9 of them. Carl -

You mean 6 scale feet. Which in 1/35, is about an inch? Either way, it looks very good. Carl -

Fantastic results from a less than fantastic kit. Makes me want to take up basket weaving. Carl -
That would be more displacement than the engine in the car!

Tamiya Spitfire MK XVIe
BlrwestSiR replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
It was for a XVI I built a couple years ago. As @HubertB mentioned, it was for a warbird. I got the colour info from an LSP member who worked on the actual plane. -
Tamiya Spitfire MK XVIe
BlrwestSiR replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Peter, great start on the Spitfire. The cockpit looks fantastic. I like the idea of mixing and matching the AM and using what suits the particular detail the best. For something different, how about painting the Merlin red with chrome covers? Oh and Tamiya's first WWII kit was the Zero, followed by the Spitfire. Carl -
Definitely great news there Martin. Almost makes me glad to hear you didn't become a foster fail.

Gave the engine a pass with a wet rag. Looks a bit better. Ran the car last night for 15 minutes and no leaks and the temp held steady.

The engine bay could definitely use the wash. So could my boys. Looking up the steps to remove the manifold made it look straightforward. Except where they don't tell you one bracket you have to remove is underneath the car and not on top. Good news is I got the part out. Here's the hole the coolant was leaking from. Needless to say it's the wet spot. Got it all back together with the offending but replaced. Now to do a coolant flush, put the front end back on and we'll be back in business. Martin, the funny thing is prior to the Element I didn't really work on our cars. Just left it to the dealer. But so many new cars you need a Master's in computer science just to change the oil. So it's kind of nice having a car that's more mechanical than computer.
