  1. I'm so glad ours are past that age. That being said, they're getting close to the one where they'll be asking for the car keys.
  2. Cool! I don't know if those are even allowed in Canada.
  3. Merry Christmas everyone! Here's what I got. I'll be off to the LHS with the cash portion of my gifts tomorrow.
  4. The reason folks buy the Detolf is for the glass and door hardware. They were originally around $50-60 for one so super cheap. Meantime, work on the Regult has progressed nicely. Cockpit pod: Legs are coming together. Now they look like the birds that Sunny occasionally leaves for us at the back door. Or at least parts of the birds...
  5. The last bit is the one that so many folks forget. Of course there's always this classic from Road & Track: The caption read: "Good tires," Bob mused, casually lighting a cigarette, "but certainly not great tires."
  6. This reminds of the first gen Audi TT. The car came with a donut spare that the spare tire well was sized to fit. A full size didn't fit. So if you got a flat, you had to put the wheel with the flat on the passenger seat. They included a bag to put it in so the seat wouldn't get dirty. No mention on what your passenger was supposed to do though.
  7. Will do. My first try was taking two Ikea Detolf display cases and joining them together to make one bigger cabinet plus adding 4 extra shelves. The new one will be similar in width but double the depth. Unfortunately Ikea seems to have recently discontinued the Detolf case but I have two already.
  8. Thanks guys! I try to find space where I can for the finished builds. I'm planning to build a new display case in the new year that should hold some of them. But it's definitely getting to be a bit of a challenge.
  9. Thanks Chris! The Tomcat intakes are on. It took a bit of clamping. While that was drying, I started hopefully a quick build. Indeed, it's been holding up to that end. The legs are almost done already.
  10. Phew, I thought it was that stuff that came in a can and you could spray it on stuff. Do they still make that or is it gone because highly flammable?
  11. Phil, you're using Tamiya X20A thinner which is for acrylic paint. You need their lacquer thinner. X20A has a white cap, the lacquer thinner has a yellow one. If you have access to Mr Color, any of these will work as well.
  12. Thanks! My first try is still in a drawer. The wing went together all wonky, partly due to cutting it up for a Seafire 47 conversion. I'm going to salvage it and finish it one day. Here's my second try mostly OOB.
  13. Well, if it's any consolation Edward is upset we won't have a white Christmas this year. Currently it's raining here.
  14. Once, I tried 4 1/32 Spitfires at the same time. Three Tamiya (VII, VIII and a IX) and the old Revell/Matchbox 24. That worked okay but when I tried with a HK and Tamiya Missie, i stalled on the Tamiya one and it ended up taking a year.
  15. Peter, it can be a challenge at times but oddly enough enough it helps me stay at the bench. If I hit a bit of a hurdle in one kit, I can pause on it and work on something else while I figure out possible solutions rather than just barging forward. On the Sea Fury for example, when I ran into the cowl issue, my first thought was just leave it and continue on. But I worked on the T-33 and came back to the Sea Fury with a better solution which paid off.
  16. Tomcats are back on the bench. Well, parts for one anyways.
  17. Looks good waiting her turn. I think I had to do the same thing with the flaps. I'll probably change it up on my next one.
  18. Phil, if you're going to strip the model, you can Tamiya or Mr Color lacquer thinner to do so. Both are cool enough to strip the paint and not affect the plastic. Looking back, I had to partially strip my CF-104 and I used Mr Color lacquer thinner to do so. That was done with AK Xtreme Metal over a black base coat. I had some weird paint issues after trying to paibt a contrasting panel. For the repaint, I did the panel first in lacquer, masked it and then re-sprayed the Xtreme Metal.
  19. Looking good there. Martin, what's that fluffy white stuff all over the ground?
  20. That's an interesting question. I think if you're not using something hot, then you should be okay. But, most of these metal paints don't take well to masking so that could be an issue. You might get some paint lifting if any significant masking is required.
  21. These guys will ship to the US https://www.sunwardhobbies.ca/mr-color-leveling-thinner-400ml-guz-t108-t108/ I order from them regularly. Here's another shop I've used. They offer flat rate shipping to the US. $15 for orders up to $150 and $10 if they're over that amount. https://pandahobby.ca/collections/mr-hobby-thinner/products/mrlevelingthinner-400ml
  22. Tamiya makes their own version now that you could try. It has an orange cap. Mr Color Self Leveling Thinner had almost doubled in price here in Canada so I've started buying the Tamiya version instead.
  23. It's been busy getting ready for the holidays so I haven't had too much time to work on the Sea Fury. I did manage to get the cowl faired in. The fuselage is now just about ready for the Dark Sea Grey camo.
  24. Not sure but I'm not a fan either.
