I've never used the black but the red brown I used as a base for the rusty CHET I did and I'd agree with Ernie that it covers lovely. The lack of odour is another plus point as my wife gets twitchy if I use lacquers.

Thanks all. I've got the base Extreme Metals aluminium down now (will post some pics soon) and will do some odd panels in dark aluminium and duralumin just to provide some variation. My question now is how best to weather this? My normal approach would be a gloss coat (Tamiya X22) then enamel based panel line wash but that strikes me as being a bit stark on a NMF. Any suggestions??

I'm in please. I'll donate a Hasegawa Kawanishi George which I won a few years back but haven't touched and am highly unlikely to. For some reason Japanese WWII subjects just don't do anything for me. If shipping for that is prohibitive I'll go the gift card route.

I take it they did the two at the right specially for you Gaz, knowing they were going to Oz!?!

All markings are on and masked off. Tamiya lacquer black is on and has had a run over with 6000 grit so next step is to bite the bullet and get the Extreme Metal aluminium on. This is where it could all go horribly wrong.... 😁 -
I'll post some pictures tomorrow but I've just put the Tamiya lacquer black on the P47 and I'm mighty impressed. Thins very nicely and sprays beautifully, also dries rock hard very quickly. Does smell a bit but I can put up with that for these results. I foresee more spending .....

Thanks Jeroen. I've never really used the Mr Hobby acrylics but I do like the AK real colours. I used them on my Cheetah build and the results were nice.

How big can you scale those up Martin? Just asking for the hospital I work at.....

I'm thankful all my back problems stopped when I stopped playing cricket. 25 years of bowling means my shoulders have a 1.5 inch height difference despite my spine being straight as an arrow. As an imaging scientist I wouldn't let anyone, medic, chiropractor, physio, etc within 100 miles of my back without getting some decent imaging of it first to know exactly what's going on. I was lucky I could just jump in the MRI at the end of a day and get a quick check up if required. Hope you get sorted out before the trip Scott.

Haven't quite had that one but have been stuck in Aberdeen behind a woman who's car was painted up advertising her services as a psychic and clairvoyant... she was holding up the traffic looking at her Satnav!! 😄

Nice smooth looking paintwork. What paints are you using?

Another lovely build and interesting paint scheme. The Italians certainly knew how to design graceful looking airframes- 13 replies

Nerf guns are great fun. Wasted way too many hours with my son and his friends when they were young having Nerf battles around the neighbourhood.

Beautiful looking car Ernie. I see what you mean about the size of the trunk.... handy for any local mafioso I'm sure

Already seen lots of chat saying the dihedral is incorrect, ie too flat, and not just on TOS. Hard to judge from the pics but although Revell aren't quite Trumpeter, they have fouled up a few obvious things down the years.

Great result Nick. Just wondered if you used the oils for the panel lines as well or if you used an enamel based product? Also did you seal the NMF before the weathering? I'm attempting my first proper NMF at the moment and looking for all hints I can get. Thanks -
Thanks Rob. Just ordered some to try as I generally quite like the Tamiya acrylics. You get a nice robust finish, so if these are as good that's great.

Thanks Rob, I'll try the black primer on the paint mule first and see how it goes. I've never tried the Tamiya lacquers, are they particularly smelly or not too bad?
-
Thanks Peter and Carl, reassuring to know I'm thinking along the right lines, although I doubt my execution will be quite as perfect as your CF-104. I wasn't planning on using polished aluminium as I don't think a wartime airframe would have been that shiny but I'll keep an eye out.

Hi fellas I'm working on the Trumpy P-47D as my first 'proper' attempt at a NMF. Previous effort was my first build back to the hobby and was done with rattlecan AS-12. Anyway, I've just primed it with MS1500 in grey as it's my go to primer. Metals are going to be AK Extreme Metals and I'm planning on using their gloss black base as the next coat. I'm using masks for all the main markings and my inclination is to apply these now and mask them off before I apply the black base to avoid masking over the metals. Anyone got any thoughts or advice on this plan?

We built our own house about 15 years back with a local builder and it's by far the best way to get exactly what you want. BUT there's so many damn things to choose! I forget who many hours of our lives we spent traipsing round showrooms and builder's merchants looking at everything. Worth it in the end though

My wife has started making her own (she also makes Kefir and Kombucha, kitchen sometimes looks like a mad scientists lair!) with ingredients from the local asian supermarket. Hasn't quite got the heat dialled in yet depending on the types of chilli available, sometimes it's been quite mild but on a couple of occasions it's been blow your head off. I do like the one Wagamama serve which is very mellow but with a nutty sweetness.

A friend of ours got our son drunk on Chartreuse at their barbeque a couple of years back. It's probably terrible parenting but there's something very funny about seeing your kids drunk for the first time, you learn new things about them. Turns out he was a very amiable drunk but just wouldn't shut up! He also couldn't understand why the bridge of his nose was sore the next day until I explained that's where he head-butted the toilet when throwing up!! 😄
