That's good thinking, John!   I've only ever built one kit with folding wings...   the old revell 1/32 Corsair...   when I was a boy.  I certainly made a glue-blob mess of it.

Absolutely, also John there are 3 sneaky mold lines on the cowling that should be sanded off. You probably noticed already, just bringing it up , people often forget.

Cheers

Nice solution to solving the folding wing issue. Should work out just fine

Good trick to improve the fit and reduce rework to a minimum. Well done John!

Thank you Kai! :)

Forging right along! The wings are ready to mount but the inserts that slide into the fuselage are pretty shallow. It might be necessary for some added strength to drill a couple of holes in the wing roots and fuselage side for some added dowels. We will see!

Hey John ...

I'm going to be building one of these as soon at my Jimmy Thatch decals arrive ... I was looking at the interior painting ... shouldn't it be that weird fluro' coloured zinc cromate stuff like the Dauntless and Avenger??

Rog :)

I've found a couple of sources that give different call outs for that. The Squadron Signal #191 F4F Wildcat in Action says they left the factory with Bronze Green cockpits. The Detail & Scale #30 on the Wildcat quotes zinc chromate green (not to be confused with the yellow tinted ZC). However, in the color photo section of that book it has several very nice color pics of the interior of a FM-2 Wildcat and, to my eyes, it appears to be Bronze Green. It may be that some did have ZCG interiors and some had BG interiors. Take your pick! LOL :)

Nice progress on your Wildcat and she sure looks good with the wings on. What was your final decision: did you add mounting pegs for a beefier wing root joint or was the kits procedure good enough?

Keep 'em comin

Peter.

Thanks Peter. The kit procedure worked okay but I did use a combination of CA glue and liquid styrene cement. Luckily they seem to be quite strong (knock on wood!).😉

We’ll the wings will be free standing, no gear loads, so they won’t be stressed through the years with a constant load on them. Just their own weight

Since the landing gear isn't on the wings there is no load on them Ernie. :)

Making progress but THIS will need some strip plastic to fix. I have to say, they must have had the "B" team on this kit as there have been other areas that were a bit of a problem.
