1/32 Revell Heinkel 219 wip

Recommended Posts

Jamme, Martin, George, Mikster, Doug, Dave thanks very much chaps.

Nick, thanks for the info have they made these for a weight or detail issue?

Maybe because of the weight of the finished plane??

Cheers,

Jamme

Detail: the kit ones have a serious error in how they are set up

Can't post pics at moment but believe me Revell goofed

GFactor ones will make weight issue irrelevant too, but personally I would buy them for accuracy as much as strength

To each his own of course ;)

The painting stage has commenced........

Initial pre shading with Tam xf2 flat white

With approx. 50/50 xf23 xf2 I sprayed random panel lines and mottled in and around others.

The dark areas are RLM66 sprayed to check scribing and any joins-seams.

Gunze's H417 RLM 76 has been applied here. Being a semi gloss it doesn't cover and this is the result of numerous passes.

I've only done this wing and nacelle.....nearly an hours worth of work slowly building up the colour!20131116_205534_zps546dc080.jpg

I'm not 100% convinced this looks anything like 76 will keep trudging along and see where I end up.

BTW how do you preview your post? cheers Bevan

It's been a while since I've worked on the 219. I've managed to get the RLM75 on and start the lattice pattern of RLM 76

I can tell you, don't try this scheme with an airbrush that isn't working properly really does suck all the fun out of it. Seems no matter what I did I still got heaps of spatter/ overspray something I haven't experienced this bad before.

I've lightly rubbed the surface with a 3000 pad to help get rid of it. I'm hoping, when the rest of the 76 is done, that the washes and weathering will help hide it and tie it all in. Even though the airbrush was clean I still pulled it down and cleaned it again. All in all I think I'm getting the hang of the pattern and am pleased with at least that so far. Thanks for looking cheers Bevan.

Brilliant work Bevan! The lattice-work that you have applied appears perfect. I have been trying to muster up the courage to give this camo pattern a whirl.

Regrds,

Ed

Thanks Ed thats why its took so long to get started on the lattice pattern. I couldn'look at it any longer the way it was so just bit the bullet.

More vodka in the paint mix should fix that spatter Bevan!  Solid start - certainly getting there now.  Some nice thin filters should take care of any remaining overspray challenges.

I think I'll try drinking it instead!! Thanks mate, yeah filters, thinking of avery thin coat of 76 to tone down the 75 a tad. Then move on to oil filtres and weathering.

Well she's got all her clothes on now. All I can say is this is a pretty tough camo pattern to do but very striking when completed. I'm glad I pushed on and finished it, very rewarding. I've applied a couple of coats of automotive acrylic clear to seal her up ready for decals and some oil washes.

One thing I will suggest to anyone who is thinking of doing this scheme is to polish the bare plastic on the upper surfaces before applying the RLM 75 as it is slightly grainy. I didn't do this and when polishing the RLM 76 overspray off (obviously polishing the 75 as well, can't help that!)some of the tiny grainy bits of the plastic have showed through randomly. Just an FYI.

Thanks for looking in cheers Bevan.
