JohnB Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 Unless I change my mind this is next using a Trumpeter 1/32 P-51B kit. 4 1
JohnB Posted February 7, 2022 Author Posted February 7, 2022 The first order of business is to fill and sand the nose intakes. 5

JohnB Posted February 8, 2022 Author Posted February 8, 2022 This is a Aires cockpit set I will use on this build. I'm not sure of the cockpit colors on Thunderbird but I figure gray might be "right". 6

JohnB Posted February 8, 2022 Author Posted February 8, 2022 I'm substituting the exhaust shrouds from a Tamiya Mustang as the one's that came in this kit are crappy. Taking a bit of surgery to get a fit! 😉 4
Peterpools Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 John OMG, you're on an incredible roll. Great choice for your next racer. I should have hired you you to be charge of my reno crew - we would have been done by now but unfortunately a good ways still to go. Hoping to be done in a about four to six weeks and then by then, I'm willing to bet, you'll have modeled almost all the Racer in the Draw Decal Line. Keep 'em comin Peter 2

Too bad this Trumpeter kit isn't of Tamiya quality but it is what it is. I'll get all the needed mods done and proceed with the build. I hope it will be another eye catcher! 😉 4
Peterpools Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 John Just love the color scheme and she is absolutely going to be an eye catcher for sure. Keep 'em comin Peter 3
GazzaS Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 Nice work so far, John. I think you need to jump back on that Sherman to slow yourself down a bit. The rest of us can't keep up. 3

LOL Gaz! The Sherman sits on the shelf staring at me as if to say just that. LOL I'll get back to it before long. 2
JohnB Posted February 9, 2022 Author Posted February 9, 2022 This particular P-51 had the dorsal fin which is a little unusual for the B/C birds. I have some resin conversion rear fuselage parts with the dorsal fin but, instead of trying to splice the whole rear end, I decided to remove the required part from one of the pieces and graft it on to the kit rear end. Seems to fit fairly well. 6 1

I have the exhausts if you still need them John. I had to check the subject that I was doing to see if I needed the shrouded or unshrouded exhausts. Let me know and I can pop them in the mail for you. Carl 2
