1:32 Tamiya Mossie FB Mk.VI with the whole enchilada

Recommended Posts

James,  I'm with Peter and Ernie on the Quinta sets, and esp Peter's suggestion to use Future to apply - I did that for a SU-29 I built.  Looks awesome!  And Peter's Mossie build was one for the ages - he did a magnificent job (as usual!) on his build, but I think it was one of its best

I also am a fan of the 5th option, the Polish Mossie.  Can't wait to see what you do with it and all the AM goodies!

Chris

RF 823 joined the Czech Air Force Dec 18, 1946, no further info.....

hold my cranberry juice :)

RF 823.   IY-5

  • arrival to CSR on 19.12.1947 with 108,4 flying hours
  • 20.01.1947 at the unit LZ6 Pilsen
  • 01.01.1948 at the unit LP 24
  • 17.09.1949      test flight after rearming
  • 20.09.1949 at the unit  LP 25 Kbely
  • May 1950 test flight after repair
  • by the 09.06.1950 totalling 251 flight hours (152,2 in CSR)
  • 24.10 -06.12.1952 as a training tool for transitional course at the Kbely Academy

Then in 1952-53 it had become a valuable source of balsa wood fro the local model building community.

Allegedly there was one surviving example as late as 1954 at the Brno-Slatina base hangar

Having said that please note the interesting date of rearming of all planes of  British origin with at the time, readily available trophy German guns, sights etc. This was caused by the western weapons export embargo that took effect after February 1948 when the last standing democracy in Eastern Europe fell as a result of communist coup and rigged election.

Unfortunately non of the Czechoslovak mosquitos manage to survive and commies made sure that anything even remotely deviating from the ideology of socialistic dogma shall be annihilated. Their departure from the Czechoslovak skies meant a swan song for freedom and democracy as well.  What follow could be called 40 years of darkness, but that's a different story altogether

I'm a big fan of Quinta Studios sets, but if you're looking for just the IP I would highly recommend the Yahu panel. I'm still trying to figure out how they got the clear glass over the dials.

There is no Quinta set for the Mossie to my knowledge.
Yahu panels look great, but not overly correct :2c:. With my recently finished Corsair build, I used a pimped version of the kit plastic and not the Yahu one I bought. The layout was mainly ok, but they use yellow color for the dials often and it doesn't look real.
The other issue with Yahu is, it's only the IP and you have to match all the consoles to the Yahu's look, too limiting for me.

Cheers Rob

Rob, you are correct about the availability of Quinta items for the Mossie. I bought the Yahu panel for the D520; it was the only thing available for that kit. I haven't looked closely enough at the dials...

Yup, no Quinta set for the Mossie. I was just pointing out that if I had a choice, these days I always go with Quinta where is one available. In the case of the Mossie, I posted two photographs of my front office ... OOB and couldn't be happier with what Tamiya provides in the kit. Maybe someday, Tamiya will bring out a different version and I'll be all over it. No doubt, with that one (if it ever happens), Quinta will be on the bandwagon with a 3D set.

I’d also like to know. I’m staying away from Quinta. Also KitsWorld do IP’s. Never used them so not sure of quality. Has anyone used them?

Paul

Any reason you are staying away from Quinta?
