More Tales from the Crypt ....some scans from the 1975 Airfix Catalogue

Recommended Posts

I still have a few old issues of Airfix Magazine, and Scale Models. One of the Scale Models issues (of 1974 , or 1976 ?) introduces a new « revolutionary » (which it was, at the time) model improvement technique : photo-etch.
At that time, they were using clear varnish to assemble the PE parts, as CA glue did not exist yet, at least for the general public …

That reminds me how old I am getting

I wouldn't have had the gall to ask for one for Xmas , nor any idea what to do with it when I got it .... hairy sticks and a pile of little airfix tins in the 1970's

More - Airfix Catalogue from 1975 ...they still sell some of these dog old mouldings ....talk about sweaty assets . My original (long lost copy that fell apart circa 1979) had a lot of circled pictures around the ones I'd built .

  • PanzerWomble changed the title to More Tales from the Crypt ....some scans from the 1975 Airfix Catalogue

Recognise a few I built/massacred as a kid in there. I certainly recall making a complete dog's breakfast of of a dio with Monty's Humber as I didn't realise lacquers wouldn't play nice with polystyrene.

I did the Rommel's Halftrack a few years back , which apparently was "kit of the year" when launched . It wasn't as grim as you might expect but any kit launched after 1995 would make it look bad. Shape was ok , small details really let it down with the technology of the day for moulding

I must have had this catalogue too, I remember all of the box arts. I might have circled numerous of the kits as well. Huh, sentimental journey, thanks for showing PW.

Cheers Rob

It is funny how after all those years we are still pouring money into those 1/24 scale relics, just because they are the best  representations of the given subjects. Sorry Trumpeter. Nostalgia aside, I miss ingenuity and touch of the old school machinists with calipers, protractors and gauges
