Main painting is done and just started masking for the white squares for the fuselage hinomarus. Also realised I'll need to buy a circle cutter as the templates I have don't go large enough for the wing markings. Any suggestions for a decent one? Looking very good, Gus and will be even better with the Hinomarus present. I have a DSPIAE circle cutter, it is really good and quality made. Cheers Rob 1
GusMac Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 Back from our summer holiday, so got some time at the bench to try out the Dspiae circle cutter on the hinomarus. Clever clogs having decided to go with the folded wings had made this a bit more complicated but we got there with a bit of fiddling. Next is a gloss coat and then onto some weathering and the decals. 5 2
GusMac Posted Monday at 08:29 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:29 PM I'm calling this one done. Sorry for the lack of updates but I kind of lost motivation for the build. Not through any fault of the kit, which is very good for a short run type moulding, but more just because of stuff going on in life. I felt I had to finish it though before I could move on to something else, so here we are... It's a sizeable beast, so the display cabinet needed a bit of a jiggle about to find room for it. Wingspan is slightly bigger than an F16! Overall a nice build but some of the detail is a little soft in places, so I left the weathering light. 5
HubertB Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago You should be proud of having finished a kit that has beaten off many modellers. And the result speaks for your skills (on a personal note, I still don’t like folded wings on aircrafts) Hubert 1
GusMac Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago Thanks Hubert. I'm not a huge fan of the folded wings either but it wouldn't have fitted in the space left in the cabinet without it, although I didn't know that when I started. It was mainly as Ernie had kindly included the full detail set with the folded wings and it seemed a shame not to use everything.
KevinM Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago She came out looking good Gus and for me it's always nice to finish and move on to something else...now to finish a 1/72 Do-17 canopy mask the ole way.
