belugawhaleman Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Some stuff..... From Dspiae their AT-HV Hand Held Mini Vise. This thing is nice! Very well-finished . I know this be useful. From Red Fox Studio, an instrument panel for the 1/32 Nakajima Ki44-2 Tojo (RFSQS32049) Looks very nice! From YELLOW-WINGS DECALS, A set for my 1/32 Hasegawa P-26 From Quickboost, a set of resin exhaust pipes for my 1/32 Ki-44 (QB 32 072) From DEAD DESIGN MODELS, A mask set for the Ki-44 (VM32 017) Never heard of this maker before. I also got a set of IJA seatbelts in 1/32 from Eduard 5
Count0 Posted May 29 Posted May 29 1/48 Airfix. This may be my first ever Airfix kit. Not sure. I wanted a car door Typhoon but didn't move fast enough. Anyway, here it is. Have to do the box art scheme, for many reasons, but mostly the over wing missiles. That just looks crazy, to me, like something out of a Gerry Anderson show. 7
DocRob Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Another parcel from Plaza Japan arrived at my doorstep. The Aoshima Liberty Walk 1/24 Nissan R35 GT-R Type 2 Ver. 2 is a real Prollkarre (German vulgar slang for a painfully overdone car). I only bought it, because it was cheap and because I loved the purchased before decal set in chrome gold JPS fashion for that car. The real reason for the purchase were the tools, another pointed tweezer (you can´t have enough) two scribers with 0,8mm and 1,5mm blade from HQ Parts, a scribing tool from Hasegawa and some etched mini sawblades from Tamiya and not shown, a bunch of Kabuki refills. A quick test of the HQ Parts scribers on a 1/24 car body proved very promising. I prefer "cutting" scribers to pressing needle scribers, as you don´t have risen edges of the scribe line. I had only a 0,25 mm wide Tamiya scriber which was too wide and skipped out of the grove often. Cheers Rob 7

belugawhaleman Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I've been adding to my Dspiae collection lately with these recent arrivals... I added their ..... AT-CR Aluminum Alloy Stepped Wire Roller AT-PST Parallel Scribing Tool. I'm impressed by this thing! Solid all metal construction. AT-MA Multi-Angle Sanding Slider This thing is pretty slick! AT-R Craft Tools Rack. This thing is built Like a tank. Very solid. It's described as a "Low Pressure Forging" Anyway, very nice. Anyway, I've managed to get back to the bench and I have been trying to get it organized. I have been mostly living at my mother's home...Her eyesight is failing and she needs constant care. My bench is at my home, which I have been visiting infrequently. Last week I was able to do some work on an "Egg Girl" resin kit. I hope to get back there this weekend and perhaps finish up that Tamiya Semovente. Meanwhile, I'll be mostly buying tools and Supplies. I did order a 1/35 RSO kit by Miniart that will be coming soon. I'm really impressed by the quality of these Dspiae items and I would recommend them. I hope you find this post useful. Thanks; Paul 5
BlrwestSiR Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Some very nice tools there Paul. I agree that Dspiae tools are generally very high quality. 3
BlrwestSiR Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I finally got my GWH P-40 kit that I ordered from Lucky Model I don't know how long ago. I'll be doing this in RAF desert colours when I get to it. 4

I had almost forgotten about it as for some reason, Lucky sent the rest of the order earlier but not the P-40 even though it was in stock at the time. 2
HubertB Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Got us a two-weeks vacation in Bali … There are worst views to wake up in the morning … Hubert 6
ScottsGT Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Hubert, looks like paradise! When we did the cruise around the UK last month, our sommelier on the ship was from Bali and was telling us we needed to add Bali to one of our destinations. Now the funny part….my wife didn’t even know there was a place called Bali. I might surprise her with a trip there next year 5

It's kind of expensive but I may look into getting one. I saw it on Hobbyeasy for $99.00 USD but the shipping would be a killerl https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/26-soo-what-did-you-just-get/page/332/#findComment-258798 1
BlrwestSiR Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Paul, it's a very nice kit that's for sure. The option to swap the exposed engine for a closed cowl is a nice touch. 1

Nice volcano in backround🔥 Mount Agung is THE volcano of Bali (but not the only one) culminating at slightly more than 3000 meters. It can be seen from almost any point of the island, when it’s not in clouds … And it was last active in 2017, so yes, it can definitely be considered an active volcano … Hubert 5

belugawhaleman Posted June 7 Posted June 7 I wasn't going to post this thing...but will. It was meant to be included in my earlier post...with these items. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/26-soo-what-did-you-just-get/page/332/#findComment-258798 Anyway, from Dspiae it's their AT-RS Photo etched Rolling Set. Until now I really had no use for it, however after going over the instructions for My 1/16 Das Werk 250/1 half track I saw a step that requires shaping some PE parts I remembered this thing. I never used one of these things before.. Never needed to. Using it seems pretty straightforward. You can see the parts in question in the included screenshot of the instuctions. They are the parts listed as TP. Hope this post is useful to someone. One question, however; Should the PE parts be annealed before using this tool? 3

I have a different rolling tool since years Paul and I use it regularly. Mine has a rubber backside, which also helps to roll PE parts to shape. Annealing makes rolling PE parts a lot easier, as it takes the springiness away from the brass. Heat the brass part over a flame, until it turns blueish. Don´t overheat and let the brass glow. Annealing takes away the tension in the kristalline structure of the metal. Cheers Rob 1 2

I was thinking about soldering the parts together but I wasn't sure how to hold the parts in position while doing so. I was wondering if a soldering paste would be useful. I use to use a solder paste when fabricating parts for my steam hobby. Normally I was using high temp silver solder, but that would be unsuitable for PE. Most likely I'm going to use CA.....the Flexy 5 stuff. 2

I learned how to solder with a soldering iron and with a flame, but never used it in modelling. I may try it with a ship project, where extensive PE works are part of. I use CA from Colle 21 for my metal works, being it brass PE parts or cast white metal. Cheers Rob 1 1
DocRob Posted June 7 Posted June 7 @belugawhaleman BTW: I don´t know, if your forum name has a meaning to you, but last week, I visited Valencia in Spain, as a present to my birthday and the huge aquarium there, in fact, the largest in Europe has a family of Belugas of about five meter size in a huge arctic aquarium. Fascinating animals. Cheers Rob 3

The origin of the name Belugawhaleman is my own self-deprecating description of my receding hairline, large forehead and Pale complexion that, in combination, give me a somewhat Beluga appearance. And yes, I did see a story about that aquarium on Fox news. Thanks Rob Martin HAS been busy😀 3
