ScottsGT Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 P320 eh? Adds new meaning to “You’ll shoot yer eye out son!” I’ve see too many videos and read articles of them going off by themselves. I use to be an Sig fanboy and my first handgun was a 229 in .40. Always wanted an older 220. Dad had a 1st gen Peacemaker. Calvary model with the longer barrel. My brother has it now, but supposed to go to his son eventually. Dad wanted him to have it because he’s named after him. Speaking of Uberti, I have their 1866 yellow boy carbine with the octagonal barrel. It’s also .45 Colt to go with my Ruger Peacemaker copy. It’s stainless. Jumping from an auto feeder to an old school revolver with a loading gate will make you think twice about the “spray and pray” technique of shooting. Growing up watching cowboy movies and seeing how everyone was a skilled marksman make a little more sense now. But Uberti builds a damned fine gun! My 1911 count is up to 7 at this time. 2 are all original WWII A1’s. Got one from an old friend I use to fly RC airplanes with. He carried it while he was in the Army. The other came from an old coworker. His dad was an MP in post WWII Germany and he remembered the day his dad brought the 1911 home. Said he unboxed it, took it out of the Kraft paper, loaded one mag up and test fired all 7 in his back yard then boxed it back up and shipped out the next morning to Germany. Said he thinks that the only time his dad ever shot it. He gave it some range time himself then oiled it up and put it in his sock drawer. Unfortunately he used WD40. When I got it, it was glued shut by the WD40. That was the second gun I’ve had to unglue from people using that crap on a gun. Thankfully it cleans off easy with Break Free or automotive brake cleaners. Oh, I also have a “baby” 1911. A stainless .380 govt. model. 4
KevinM Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 I have one handgun and it's a Springfield WWII version of the 1911.Tim I have bidded on a few Uberti's over the years just not lucky enough yet for me it's the Civil War renditions that move me. 3

That P320-going-off-by-itself stuff is very, very uncommon, in my experience, and usually due to some sort of pilot error. The ones that had any issues were the very first ones, and they fixed that on subsequent models. You can also buy it with a manual safety now. Mine does not have one, it is the striker fired no safety type. I find it to be quite safe if you're not a stupid dipshit (which I hope I am not!!). I keep it in a level 2 retention holster so nothing can access the trigger, and take the "ready-to-go" nature of it very seriously, especially since there is always a round in the chamber. The Uberti Yellow Boy is on my bucket list. They do make outstanding firearms. Mine is a Beretta Stampede, but made by Uberti. It is a very faithful replica. 3 hours ago, KevinM said: I have one handgun and it's a Springfield WWII version of the 1911.Tim I have bidded on a few Uberti's over the years just not lucky enough yet for me it's the Civil War renditions that move me. Archimedes Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Well I have trawled all 17 pages and what I am thinking rhymes with ‘Clucking Bell!’ For me the ‘other hobbies’ are 1. I make furniture: 2. I soar whenever I can 3. I play solo jazz guitar 4. I do go to the shooting range with my guns but forgive me for not advertising the small collection I have. I enjoy skill and precision of it rather than the objects themselves. 5. Every day I enjoy the company of my security squad. 11

I also dabble in some minor wood working. Not nearly as much in the new home due to the smaller garage now. 6

I love woodworking as well but don't have room for a workshop. When we built out garage, Sue made it clear that it was strictly for our cars and bikes and not to be turned into a workshop. A fiat tradeoff in my opinion. As for our security squad, he might get off the couch for you if you came in but is more likely to just ignore you and keep sleeping. 4 1 4
RZP303 Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Haven't been here for a while, and the reason is below. When sailing season is here I'm rarely inside at my work desk and model building stops for a bit. There are hobbies that soak up more cash. 🙂 Richard 9

KevinM Posted January 31 Posted January 31 So my neighbor across the street treats me as one of his own sons has been passing on what he had as guns some since his youth. So far I have gotten a single shot 20G 2 1/2 , .410 single and today something I don't dabble in much a handgun. The gun comes in the original box serial # is 1973/74 Smith Wesson J-Frame .38 special snub-nose.I have always wanted a revolver this one has some holster wear on the cylinders he has/had friends in law enforcement. He said the gun was gifted to him about 1990 he never fired it. 4
ScottsGT Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Wow Kevin. He gave that to you? Very nice! I guess you’ll be cutting his grass all this summer now! I have the stainless version of that one. 2

Yes he did Scott it's not worth that much market wise maybe $400 he's on the conservative side like me his sons not so much we have much in common playing Golf out at KAFB in the past with our other buddy William. 1
ScottsGT Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Kevin, that revolver is worth more than $400. More like $600 or $650. I paid $600 for my stainless copy 4 years ago. S&W’s are making a big comeback in popularity lately, especially models without the “Hillary hole” like yours and mine. He sounds like a good friend! Both my boys are conservatives as well, one has a gun collection that is as big as mine. He’s doing pretty good as an Army Captain and owns a rental home he’s making bank on in a college town. The other could take them or leave them, but he’s into cars big time. But I made sure he has a few guns. When he made Eagle Scout I gave him the Henry .22 Eagle Scout edition rifle, 18th birthday both boys got an M1 Garand. I have two really nice WWII 1911’s I’ll hand down to them one day as well. And since his auto shop is in an out of the way place in an almost sketchy part of town I gave him a PSA Dagger for Christmas in ‘23. He keeps it in his shops PPE drawer. 🤣 2 1
KevinM Posted February 1 Posted February 1 My son will get most of my collection also he was kind of disappointed I cut the Garand lose but Garands are a dime a dozen to get.I am sitting on about 40 rifles now I guess with 30+ being of Military grade. The $400 price I figured was from in 2018 the price was about $330 to $600 with the wear with 60/70% still there I was being conservative Scott.I had a customer come in today we have gotten to know each other pretty well( retire Marine) he mentioned these old S&W revolvers are making a comeback like you said worth more. 3
ScottsGT Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Amazing how expensive Garands have gotten. The youngest son got one of the special grade rebuilt by the CMP armorers. I think it was $1200 when it came out. I had originally built him one from the wood less Danes they were selling for $300. I put it together with a new Boyd’s stock, did a really nice boiled linseed oil finish on it, sent it off to Springfield Inc for a black park job. In the meantime I ordered the special grade for a close friend. When he saw the one I did for my son, he went nuts wanting it and traded me the special grade for it. Back in December I watched a special grade CMP rifle sell for $3600 on Gunbroker. 😱. Later on another sold for $3200 or $3400. As far as older S&W’s, they just introduce 3 models at SHOT that come without the Hillary Hole lock. They’re finally listening to customers.
