There HAS to be an RCAF one in there somewhere..............................................:stirthepot:

Maybe, I'm a little torn whether to do RCAF "E" model from the Aleutians, or do one from USAAF in Burma. Time will tell how I feel about it.

The RCAF flew some N models too out of BC. If I get the chance, that's the one I'd build.

Spent the last couple nights masking canopies, I have four completely done, last one needs the center slider completed and that’s it for masking clear parts. Next it will be masking off cockpits, intakes, and wheel wells. Some days it feels like a never ending grind.

Today was a total disappointment, I sprayed the clears after finishing masking, then checked my work. Not a single one of these is ready for paint. Everyone has seam issues that this stupid modular Hasegawa construction caused. I spent the afternoon reapplying filler in seams and divots...again. This delays paint by a week at least.

This is a motivational buggering. I may have to put these back on the SOD and work on something else for a while.

I love my P-40 Mark, but I totally agree. I got VERY frustrated at times with the design of the Hasegawa kits many parts.   I spent more time than anything on seam cleaning and rescribing.   Your doing great and it'll all come together soon.

These little bastards pissed me off and I had to deal with seam lines and shrunken filler, so I slathered them with filler again and threw them back on the shelf again.

Now, a month later, I picked up the three best and started sanding again. I got them pretty well evened out, and threw another coat of primer on them. At this point, other than describing a few seam lines, I’m leaving them as-is. I don’t feel like devoting another year to making them perfect. I am really going to have to find a better filler, Mr Surfacer 500 is on my shit list.

I hope to start throwing down some paint in the next couple of days.

Nice to see these back. Not so much on the fill, sand, repeat. Maybe use CA as a filler? No shrinkage, dries more or less instantly. But you do have to sand it right away before it sets too long and gets rock hard.

Nice to see activity, my friend.  I have to say, trying to salvage Trumpy kits with filler ranks among the most hated of things I've tried to do in 1/32.  I tried Mr.Dissolved Putty (NEVER AGAIN), Automotive Primer (too Hot), and CA.  Of the three, CA is the best, but you have to sand it while it's still soft...like right after it dries and settles.  Let it go overnight, and you'll get rid of the plastic quicker than the CA.  Plus, you have to work in small areas.

I've started 2 Trumpy 1/32 scale kits.  They both ended up as spare parts.  I want to do a large scale P-40B.  But if none ever surfaces from a good company, I'll live without.

Actually, the three best planes I have completed so far, as far as zero filler and build issues, are the Tamiya F4U, Hasegawa Ki-84, and the Trumpeter P-40B. If you take away the accuracy issues, mostly cockpit, the build itself was very enjoyable, and issues were self induced. All three of these required zero seam filler.

as far as filler, I used to use some high build sprayable filler for cars, but it’s nasty stuff that will give you headaches even while wearing a rated respirator, but that stuff was a dream to sand, and never shrank.

I'm with Martin. Having just finished a single one of these, I could never do this many of them!!

When I started this project, I was going to build 10, I man aged to start 8, then it was down to the 5 best, now three are close to paint. I can tell anyone wanting to do this...don’t try! Do one at a time. There are just too many issues with Hasegawa modular construction. The sanding & filling has been a nightmare.
