ok, this is what wiki (ugghh - sorry) has to say:

"The Royal Navy received 95 Corsair Mk Is and 510 Mk IIs, these being equivalent to the F4U-1 and -1A. Brewster-built aircraft were known as Mk IIIs (equivalent to F3A-1D), and Goodyear-built aircraft were known as Mk IVs (equivalent to FG-1D). The Mk IIs and Mk IVs were the only versions to be used in combat.[68]"

Oh wow....I had a feeling it would be a Corsair and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm sure they will raise the bar even higher.

Just saw it confirmed via HobbyLink Japan....

F4U-1 Corsair Birdcage.... I knew about it being a Corsair for a while... But didn't expect it to be a Birdcage.

I was convinced it would be a Luftwaffe subject until I saw you selling off your Trumpy kit and assorted bits a few months ago.  Then I thought there might be something to all those Corsair rumors after all :)

Have to say those schemes look pretty dull, but 'it is what it is' as they say...

Am collating info on what will be needed to model a FAA Corsair II btw, but think even if the raised cockpit (what's 7 inches in 1/32?) is overlooked, I think you need different canopy (A2zee models, listening??? ;) ) and shorter wings right?

Still looking forward to this, if for no other reason than to see how Tamiya have outdone their P-51 kit...

And the crazy thing is...they will outdo it...and that's just scary.

Well not really a big surprise.  Not an aircraft that I have a huge affinity for but will pick one up mostly because a late friend of the family flew for VMF 214 "The Black Sheep" during the war and will build it as a tribute to him.

I'm just wondering how long it will take to see a Luftwaffe bird from Tamiya, you can only crank out the iconic fighters of WW2 so long without covering the 109 or the 190.

Not a huge corsair dan? Blasphemy! :)

I suspect the idea that a jug is next is spot on, but a 190 may not be far off. I wouldn't think a 109 would beat out th FW since its covered in 32nd pretty well.

well, the NEXT Tamiya uber kit will be (and you heard it here first - not really, but you know what i mean) either:

Hawker Hurricane

Me109 E

why?

because the Canada museum that tamiya measured the corsair at has these two birds also, and we know for a fact that Tamiya also measured another aircraft - but they are not saying which

my money on the Emil

:)

my info comes via Bob Swaddling over on Hyerscale

he's a smug so and so, but he has been right over the past 3 or four years, and is clearly party to Tamiya insider info / intentions...

the Mossie is never going to come from Tamiya - it'll come from HK right?
