It sure looks like it! I have the Heller TE-20 kit half built, and I keep eyeing other machinery kits, but I just can't allow myself to spread out too much. I can't afford to expand the hobby!!

I particularly love the rusty Cat photo above (note the brand new seat!). I love rusty farm equipment. I actually used to refurbish equipment as a job years ago, so I stripped and painted many a tractor and Caterpillar. I also spent a lot of hours driving tractors and lift trucks at various jobs before I joined the desk bound world. Old machines like that will always have a special place for me.

HA ! I didn't even notice the seat !!!  Yeah, I am the same way, and love old iron, and my back and my knees can tell you I do !!  Yes, old classic iron is where it's at.... I am glad some model companies are making civvie stuff, just a nice light change , this build is really great.....

I like these type of models also. Nice change of pace but yet you can use the same modeling skills as for military armor.

Did a little bit of chipping on the track assemblies. I have decided not to include the covers over back wheel. Leaving it similar to the photo of the dozer above. Gives it more interest to me.

anyone know the best method to get a faded/worn black seat?

If it is a leather seat, my method, I tried  first with my RSO build might work. I love the result you get using cigarette paper for leather.
Here is an excerpt from this build.

Cheers Rob

Next on my RSO schedule was the interior and I wanted to try something new. The leather bench painted in Tamiya semi gloss black looked way too new, so I decided to do something good for the health of my part time smoking wife and took some of her cigarettes, got rid of the tobacco and crumpled the paper. Then I applied some white glue-water mix to the bench and backrest and applied the paper.

After that I dabbed some Tamiya earth brown onto the still a little wet cigarette paper as a background for the crackles. Looks ugly, but that was what I was expecting and the rib structure of the paper pays off.

After everything was dried, I applied first some semi gloss black with a near dry old stiff brush carefully only stroking in one direction. After doing that several times, I changed to flat black and continued. While stroking I emphasized the places, where the crew must have left the most wear with the fewest color and added a little volume. The effect was a bit to glossy for my liking, so I mixed some drops of future with Tamiya flat base and applied again nearly drybrushing. A little shine should be left, like worn old leather develops.

I like the result and the bench looks much more realistic and textured that way and sports the wanted crackled effect.

The interior with all it's levers got some treatment first with Uschis steel pigments, some yellow penciling an

Thanks for that reminder Rob, I will see if the son in law has any papers, and will try that on my 'crawler' version of this same tractor being built here. I had forgotten you did that..... that would look good on Axeman's great build....

Painting this weekend. Kept the dozer blade rust colored. The back of the blade still has yellow at the top with the bottom worn. Added rust around wheels where the tracks would rub. Painted and chipped the pulley system. Did a little weathering on the sides of the main assembly. Test fitting of the major parts. Starting to look like a bulldozer.

Only was able to work on burnishing the metal tracks. Will use the hairspray chipping with the rust color and then more hairspray and then yellow. Limited yellow on top and a little bit heavier on the inside of the tracks. More to come.

Well, I was test fitting the return rollers on the track assembly and found the track does not lay on the rollers flat. The rollers at two parts that the instructions say to remove 4mm from the end and the glue together. Don’t know why it is not the correct size to begin with. Mine were too wide   So, I cut the rolls in half, sanded the ends down and test fitted to ensure they fit and the glued together.  So, if you are building this kit, I recommend putting some of the tracks together and test fit.  All done and attached to the track assembly.

Worked on the tracks this weekend. I have seen pictures that the tracks are painted yellow. Most of it is worn way so you don’t see it. I tried to get the same effect. The inside tracks pads would have the yellow remain longer and worn from the outside of the pad inwards. The rust layer I had is not showing as much and will need to add light rust in some spots. I still have to add dust and dirt.

I agree Phil, we also need a good 'newer' model of a road grader, the Plus Model kit is awesome , but something from the '50's early '60's would be amazingly good...

Haven’t ever built anything like that, just AFV’s and planes........oh and ships.....how boring am I.....
