    OH YES! Truly well worn piles of junk is right. And a story to tell with every mile under those wings. That's why I love early Mustangs so much. Especlly the Allison powered versions. They were run till they literally fell to pieces in their revetments.

    Dang! We don’t get the Beat here, Carl. The smallest Honda available is a Civic, I think. Now I drive 14 Focus I bought new. 155,000 MILES already without a hitch. Great, if unexciting car. Thinking of a Subaru for my next. Might spring for a WRX or, God forbid, I hear the Siren call of the GTi. One way or another, the time is rapidly approaching

    We all have our hobbies. Try explaining my joy of shooting and my antique firearm collection to an anti gun person it’s like trying to put out a volcano by peeing into the crater. Same with fast cars and bikes. I’m ‘mostly’ over the fast car and bike thing, but I live to ride long distances on a bike till my butt is hollering for me to stop and I love 1950s cars. I wish I had the inseam for certain modern BMW motorcycles, but alas, they’re just too tall, so I stick with American life goes on. Until it doesn’t. Then I’m called home

    The only Japanese car I’ve ever owned was a 78 Subaru Brat. I absolutely LOVED that little thing. I couldn’t kill it, even as it rusted out around me. I had that truck buried up to the doorsills in mud, stuck tight. The winch in the front pulled me out, military style. Tied the cable to a tree and pulled myself forward. I went a half mile that way. 150 ft at a time no turning around. Don’t ask me why I got there in the first place.

    What’s crazy is that those little Japanese 4 banger econo boxes will, given the correct bolt on goodies and programs, outrun, outcorner, outbrake, and outperform the best tuned hottest 1960s muscle cars, day after day, hour after hour, year after year, with the A/C on. Technology is a beautiful thing. But.. I’ll still take a rumbling, snorting V8 over a winged dingey sounding little sewing machine motor any day. I may lose, but I’ll look and sound cool doing it. hahahaha. Love you guys!

    Uh oh. Another tire shredder thread. Dad had a notchback bare bones 69 Fairlane 2 door with a 428 SCJ and a shaker scoop that he bought brand new. It was very, very fast, that’s about all I remember other than it would eat the neighbors 67 powered Galaxie 500 for lunch. I still love a Fox body Mustang, though.

    Agreed on that. We best self moderate on this. (Evil laugh), because you know where it could go with a sligh push from those who aren’t present here. But I, unfortunately see our entertainment industry missing out on massive storytelling and profit opportunities, all in the name of political correctness. To appease your abovementioned 8%. The public loves space. The public loves history. The public loves sci-fi. The public loves most of all space history. Apollo 13 was huge! The Right Stuff was huge. First Man could have been huge. The silly PC decision to edit out the US flag on the moon played as the silly, petty, stupid PC decision it was all over the world, and hurt an otherwise decent film. Then, the way the directors and actors brushed it off as if we were a bunch of redneck fools put the knife in and finished the job. There’s so much space history to be told. I hope to see a world class production of the first man into orbit, Yuri Gagarin. You can bet your britches that I’ll get a lump in my throat and cheer when that rocket leaves the pad, even if the red hammer and sickle are on the side of it. Who cares. It’s space!

    They were discounted... on Thursday. I bought the Mustang IV and had no space in my luggage for the Dornier A-12. So bought online for same price and paid shipping.

    In 1985, I had something like 3.75 million Italian Lira in my wallet. Then I figured out it worked out to about DM30. I was poor again.

    And Bruce Lee movies had better voice dubbing. Ugh, that was hideous! I see that the Hollywood “Blockbuster” ‘First Man’ apparently bombed as well. I never went to see it, but apparently the producers decided to eliminate the planting of the US flag on the moon, thinking having it would “offend” every person in the world except the Christian Right wingers in the USA. Apparently they were wrong..... LOL. I love it when Hollyweird is too smart for their own good. I wish PJ would just get on with remaking Dambusters.

    Well, I made it through about the first 30 minutes of the film before I gave up on it. The last 15 minutes were forced, with the final 2 spent frantically searching for the remote control. What a hideously BAD film. Horrible special effects, although the computer modeled Polikarpov fighters were nicely done as long as they weren’t actually moving. When they were moving, it was cool how they could fly sideways. Back in my military days I saw ‘adult’ films with better acting. But the 10 dollars I spent on the 30 minutes of this flick is by far the worst money I’ve ever spent in my life.

    That’s an aircraft you don’t see everyday, and I’m ashamed to say that despite my attempts at knowing much about early aviation record attempts and racing, I had not, until now, heard of Chevalier Lecointe. Beautiful model and an awesome likeness of the great man himself, Hubert!

    Carl, have you given any thought to opening the cockpit hatches? I have and am certainly going to try. I know Brian lived to regret it, but at least in my case, one of the commonalities of the PBJ-1Hs seen on the islands is the open top hatch and pushed back side window
