DB605 Engine 1/18 scale HPH
Kaireckstadt replied to Trigger's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
That looks really gorgeous Frank! The prop with the spiral on the spinner and the blackgreen blades are painted absolutely convincing. Still a lot of work to do but beautiful progress! BTW: How about your Catalina? -

Thanks for your feedback Rob! I‘m lucky too that Italeri doesn’t build real planes. I have a second one with all Matterhorn Circle parts and at least the fit of the nose (Recce-Version) and the standard tailcone should be better. But it‘s at the very end of my list...- 719 replies

Israeli Mirage III C with Atar9C

Since I made a little pause with sanding and rescribing I started with the landing-gear. So yesterday I opened up the next construction site. I hoped that it wouldn’t occur but as expected also the landing gear needs a lot of rework. Especially the front gear has an insert with a bad fit which even needs putty! And also the main landing gear has a lot of seams to be removed. The dampers aren’t glued but just plugged. Since I want to add some piping this will be a time-consuming task. But what’s not time consuming when building this kit ? Good that it’s still 6 months to go till Telford...- 719 replies

Looks very nice John! Good decision to leave the unnecessary parts out. I‘m not a friend of opening all possible panels. With closed cowls it‘s possible to see the beautiful sleek look of the Spitfire. Like your approach!

These figures bring so much life to your boat! The 2 on the bridge and the ones on the deck are placed really nice. I would leave them and the accessories as posted now. Regarding the pose of the crew-member at the Flak I ask myself what he is working at? Maybe you could post a photo of him from the other side. Then it would be easier to see if the pose is ok. Kai

Expected no other answer, because it’s Tamiya...

The seat is ok Alberto! I tested it‘s fit in the cockpit with closed canopy. I would recommend not to use the brass yparts but scratch them. The activating handles look much better when made from wire. For more information about the seat (and many others) you can look at this homepage: http://www.ejectionsite.com/frame_sg.htm And some pics of the real seat and my painted and improved Isracast seat.

Absolutely clean build without any flaws! Looking really very good including the Prop! Did you have to do a lot of rework?

Hi Alberto, Nice to hear that the quality of your Isracast parts seems to be better than mine. Are you sure that you wanted to post this here in my Mirage blog? It should be posted in yours or not? Cheers Kai- 719 replies

I also came about this question when I built my cockpit (because I used the same set from Eduard like Alberto). It was really used in the series IP. It wasn‘t always at the same place on the IP but present on them. For me it seems that the bigger instrument is a combination of compass and artificial horizon and the smaller one solely an artificial horizon.

Tank Ta-152 Willi Reschke
Kaireckstadt replied to Kaireckstadt's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Thanks for your feedback Frank. I appreciate that much! I always liked the late war german camouflage schemes with a mixture of unusual colors, their variations and even unpainted areas. Regarding the grass: I had the same problem you describe. I solved it by buying the best available grass-mat from model-train suppliers (e.g. HEKI) and I also found some suppliers when I was at the SMW 2019 in Telford. I also tried it by myself (with mixed results) but the mats are not that expensive and look really good. Kai- 24 replies

Thanks for your feedback Matt! You are totally right regarding the figure. When I got it I had the same thoughts like you! Really has a head, face and fingers looking like a Neanderthal. Maybe these were the last available pilots to fly a Ta-152...- 24 replies

Gaz I wanted a picture of the Tamiya yellow on plain wood. So that’s exactly what Rob showed. @Rob: Thanks for the foto and description! Did you try the tipp with the scalloped look of the ammo-boxes? Kai

Tim, that‘s unbelievable what you are doing! I‘m speechless! Simply Wow!

Thanks for your feedback and your tipp Gaz! I will for sure give it a try since I have a lot of Me 109 in my stash. And not only for them. This makes working on such panellines much easier! I also hope to get some paint on it soon, but still the rescribing is in front of me (not a job I adore...) Cheers Kai- 719 replies

Thanks for your feedback Frank! You are totally right: patience is what is really needed when building this kit. It‘s important for me to share my techniques here because we all can learn a lot from each other. And I have learned a lot since I‘m part of this group! Kai- 719 replies

Beautiful start on the Albatros Gaz! The engine looks really great with the AM stuff! Clever idea to use cigarette paper as lagging tape! The scalloped look of the ammo boxes doesn’t look that bad. A friend of mine who build a Fokker EIII did this by painting a typical pattern on an Alclad base with pale metallic grey color applied with a fine brush. Maybe you can give it a try... Your attempt regarding the idflieg orange doesn’t look that bad either. Do you have a picture real color on wood? All in all an awesome start Gaz! Can‘t wait to see the next update! Kai

Meanwhile I took care of the intakes , the nose and the tail cone. Hubert was fully correct in mentioning that the parts between the fuselage and the intake ramp are too thick: I corrected that by carefully milling them thinner with my dremel-tool. As expected I milled into the left intake ramp and had to make an insert : After grinding I sanded everything with 400 and 2000 grid sandpaper. The pictures do not clearly show how thin I milled them, but it looks ok now for me: Then I added the stabilator-pins for the inlet-cones: They are made of 0,5 mm wire. Glueing them in place wasn‘t an easy job as was all I did in this update. It is really important to do all these improvements before the intake-installation because it’s much easier. Then I moved over to the rework of the nose and tail cone. There the fit was extremely bad. Since it’s important not to loose all details I make every panelline and rivet deeper before sanding. This assures that you do not sand it away and have to add it new again later. The process is always: sandig, stop sanding when the details can still be seen, rework of the details and continue sanding. This is how I was able to save all the complex details on the nose: The last step was to sand the connection between the tail and the tailcone where the fit was worst. It took long and much 400 grid sandpaper. But now it’s looking good: Next is to finish the rescribing and riveting and to rescribe the perpendicular lines of the nose and tailcone.- 719 replies
