HobbyBoss A-26 Invader: Holy Thread Drift, Batman!
1to1scale replied to Clunkmeister's topic in General Discussion
Yes, he is a good guy, I have met him in person, not questioning that at all. There are a lot of harsh personalities over there that like to fight in threads, just another example it that thread. -
HobbyBoss A-26 Invader: Holy Thread Drift, Batman!
1to1scale replied to Clunkmeister's topic in General Discussion
I just read that, funny reading. He even mentions about the exodus that happened a year ago. But, I believe Radub was probably the primary instigator, but the others took it to another level. I prefer the no drama over here. -
Just don’t piss off the old clunk that draws the names, he may “accidentally” loose you name.
-
How about we make sure this year that everyone participating gets a gift? I would be happy to donate a few extra models to make sure. Everyone’s name goes on a piece of paper in a bucket, draw one out for gift, and it does not go back in, draw the next name, and so on. If there is a separate grand prize, simply put all the names back in the bucket and draw one out. The way it was done last year left a few people without a gift. This way it’s more like a family gift exchange, and I consider you guys a family, so I would like to make sure everyone gets a gift.

If anyone has and news or pictures, please post them here, so far, nothing on my end, but I have a friend over there, he will hopefully text me some pictures as soon as he sees anything.

What is on your bench right now ? Share a picture :)
1to1scale replied to Martinnfb's topic in Modelling Discussion
I know. Pretty unbuildable, and to top it off, I bought the kit for $35 which included a cockpit, intake splitter, tires, PE, and G-factor gear, I added a $10 Squadron canopy and $7 Master barrels, for a total of $52. -

I completely understand! my best builds were built for me, and did not win anything. i even went back and added detail to my favorite build (Ki-84) three times. I am giving up building for contests And focusing on fun. Every once in a while we have to hit the reset button. I am building two “off the books” projects right now, and one is a car! Have fun and build away!

No joke, my coworkers wife sneezed and her abdomen stitches ripped wide open, she had to go back to the hospital for a few days.
-
Wow, spend a few days away from here and people are getting their chests ripped open! hope you are feeling better soon. Ouch, I can’t even imagine the pain you are in.

1960's F-84G wheel bay and interior colours?
1to1scale replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in Modelling Discussion
I did some checking... looks like wells were a olive toned yellow chromate, and cockpits were a more greenish olive chromate, later thunder streak/flash were more likely gray in color. Keep in mind, they flew these through the 60’s, so they were probably rebuilt and repainted a few times. -

I could be wrong, but aircraft of that era typically had chromate coated wheel wells. Not saying that is how the f-84 was. -
Got a question about commission builds.
1to1scale replied to 1to1scale's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I have been thinking about that too, but I plan to enter everything I have built in the next show here Nov 16, I am trying to convince the board that they need more than one class for 1/32. So I am going to flood the contest. After that, I was going to sell a few. -
Your modelimg choices, what spurs you on?
1to1scale replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
Whatever floats my boat at any given moment, i mostly stick to 1/32 and 1/35. I used to do WW2 only, but have since expanded to the modern age. I last completed a modern Russian helo, now working on a P-51 and a Mig-15. Next up is a F-105 and a F-15 aggressor. I have about 15 Models partially completed in progress. -
I saw that Mig-29, that was was pretty well gone through, it had 1000 hrs left on its engines, so it was definitely worth it. I remember there was a restored CF-104 that sold for $125K a few years ago, it was complete minus an engine. It’s actually funny to see that you can touch a WW2 warbird anymore, but you can buy a fully functioning early Mig for less than $100K. If I were a rich man... ...who am I kidding, I would go broke buying cars and planes.

I had a dream last night, and I had a vision that the wing airfoil is wrong, there is no way I could build it now. -

Got a question about commission builds.

I can see it not being able to replace a full time job, but if I’m just laid off anyway, then it could be a small supplement. I understand the difficulty, I did commission work back around 2002-2004 with a partner, but it really wasn’t my thing (cars), I did decals design work (i had an alps printer and adobe and publisher programs) and model assembly, he did custom airbrush work. We were making about $500 a month to supplement our full time incomes. I also did resin parts for police cars, wheels, light bars, pushbars, lighting systems, and decals. I did contract batch work for some police departments building 1/18 models of their cruisers, this was pretty lucrative and most of the work was on the first copy, so turning out a dozen at $150 each was good work. And we offered a service that no one else did. But as times changed and there were lower grade copycats undercutting us, competitors price and quality went low, and selling to Govt agencies, cost was always a deciding factor. Another kick in the nuts, I had a company i was working with to cast my parts, steal my original masters and sold the parts under their name, so we gave it up and went on with our full time careers. -
Has anyone tried Tamiya gloss coating varnish?
1to1scale replied to Sir Desmond Glazebrook's topic in General Discussion
I have used X-22, but never seen that one before, it looks like Vallejo. Before you spray, test a few drops in a small cup with a drop of the thinner you plan to use. Try alcohol or lacquer, see what happens. -
No need to, there are Mig-15s everywhere. I remember there was a surplus store off the highway in TX that had a Mig-15 and another had a F-111 front fuselage. You can buy Mig 15s for about $50K, L-39s for about $125K, and a whole bunch of other aircraft for less than a cessna.
