Skoda 30.5cm M1916 Takom
belugawhaleman replied to belugawhaleman's topic in LSM Armour Finished Work
Thanks. -
Thanks. Glad to hear that leveling thinner can be used.

I just ordered 8 bottles of Tamiya semi-gloss lacquer (10ml) from Tower Hobbies.
-
No, I meant I didn't know future could be mixed with Flat base. The Tamiya flat base works only with their Acrylics as far as I know. The only reason I would buy the spray and decant is that the semi-gloss lacquer comes only in small bottles and the spray can lacquer would already be thinned.

Cool! I always thought it was bigger. https://spruebrothers.com/tak02001-1-35-takom-object-279-soviet-heavy-tank-3-in-1/

Thanks, I noticed that tamiya makes a clear semi-gloss lacquer in spray; I may decant this from the can and use it in my airbrush. Thanks for the tip on using future. I didn't know this could be used with the Tamiya flat base. I'll give it some thought. Thanks for The link as well. Does the Future need to be thinned? If so, with what do you thin it with? I recently purchased a Minerva armoured car from CSM and I would like to try something different than my usual dead-flat finish.

Just finished this Takom Skoda 30.5cm gun. Interesting little kit; not sure if its available anymore. Like the Bt-7, it's in 1/35 . Mine represents one in Hungarian service.

What product do you recommend for a semi-gloss clear finish? On my recent Dragon German bicycle build, I mixed a little clear gloss with my German gray (Both Tamiya) and I got a nice, durable finish. I know Tamiya has a flat base that you can mix with its gloss paints to achieve a semi-gloss finish; but my attempts using the flat base haven't been successful. I saw that Tamiya has semi-gloss clear, but it only comes in the mini bottles and is sold-out everywhere. My question is; what other manufacturers are out there, besides Tamiya, that offer a good semi-gloss clear?

Years ago, I built some of the Tamiya 1/16 RC tanks: I built the Sherman, Pershing, and the Tiger 1. I haven't run them in years. I'm still a novice here when comparing skills with others on the forum. I posted a couple 1/16 builds here: A Takom Ft 17 in Brazilian markings and Takom's type 94 in PLA markings. I hope you don't decide to stay in the background as your massive Char shows you have great skills! Paul

This will be cool! Always wanted to do a natural metal finish. I'm sure yours will be great! Will be following.

I'm not familiar with this aircraft. It certainly was a handsome little airplane. Your build looks impressive so far and I certainly will be following. -
Yes, definitely some kind of misprint there. In my Amazon order history I paid $ 12.95 On the Micro mark website they have one for about $19.00. If I remember correctly, having ordered one of theirs years ago, it is smaller than the one in my link.

Yes, I'm a big fan of 1/16 kits! In my stash I have a lot of them: including those from Takom, Trumpeter, Classy Hobby, and Das Werk. I'm kind of stalled on a big Trumpeter T-72b. It needs only masking of the side skirts for final painting and assembly. It's been dormant for months; but I'll finish it sometime.

That tank is huge! Is that the Meng kit that is dwarfed by your model!
-
No, I only paid about $12.00 for mine definitely not that much! Here's a link: https://pmcsupplies.com/4-1-2-15a-cutting-tweezers-plastic-sprue-and-copper-wire-cutters.hh At this price, I just ordered another one.

Very nice!

Thanks I'll have a look at those. I use the Tamiya cutters and this nipper I found on Amazon, works great on small parts. Yes, pricey but worth it. I just ordered their center locator for the circle cutter. I had A hard time finding this online as most were sold out. I found one for $ 12.00 U.S.. One website listed this for $ 47.00 ! I'll have a look at their cutters.

Yes, I agree about the weathering. If I were to make this model again I would weather the track links prior to assembly then, carefully, glue the links together using a different cement. The Tamiya extra thin dissolved the little pins meant to hold the tracks together making Assembly difficult. The tracks when clicked together without cement would break apart with very little movement.

Not sure what's going wrong there. I simply use the ad files feature when replying, after which my kindle tablet asks where your files are located and click on the desired file.

Is this the video? Pretty Cool!
-
Thanks. I really would like to see that 1/16 Char of yours!
-
Thanks. The color coded cutters are for the angles of the cutter blades apparently, the blue for the thinnest materials, the red the thickest. That center finder is on my next purchase list!

Got this today; A circle cutter from DSPIAE and I must say I'm impressed with its quality! Unlike what I had seen in the reviews, I'm happy to say that mine came mostly assembled; requiring only placing the rubber pads on the bottom and screwing in the cutter holder. The instructions, however, are lacking; they don't explain what thicknesses the three color-coded cutters should be used for. I'm sure that can easily be figured out. The tool is a bit pricey, but once you get this thing in your hands, you'll understand why. It's built like a tank and the cutter turns on a precision bearing. Most Impressive!. I haven't used it yet, but look forward to cutting masks for the many wheels on those tank projects. This tool is said to have a range from 1 mm to 50 mm circles.
